Details of service
The Speech and Language Therapist Manager in Charge III is responsible for the clinical professional and operational leadership of Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) services across the Integrated Health Area (IHA) including Sligo South Donegal West Cavan and Leitrim.
The post holder will:
- Provide clinical and professional supervision and governance to adult and paediatric Primary Care SLT teams across the region.
- Hold direct line management responsibility for Speech and Language Therapists working within Adult Intellectual Disability services CAMHS and St. Johns Hospital.
- Work in close collaboration with operational leads in Sligo University Hospital and Older Persons Services to ensure effective clinical and professional leadership for SLT staff within these settings.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality evidence-based services across the age spectrum including speech language and communication needs and eating drinking and swallowing (dysphagia) management.
- Work in partnership with the designated Line Manager and senior management team as identified by the IHA Manager to develop and implement the SLT service model across the region.
- Lead or contribute to designated priority areas of service development (e.g. joint clinical oversight of Primary Care Autism Diagnostic referrals) in line with national and regional priorities.
- Collaborate with operational managers to ensure robust clinical governance structures are in place across all SLT services supporting safe effective and person-centred care.
- Support workforce planning service development and quality improvement initiatives across the SLT service.
- Lead and support a team structure comprising Senior Speech and Language Therapists and Staff Grade Speech and Language Therapists.
Reporting relationship
The post holder will initially report to the General Manager for Primary Care.
Key working relationships
The post holder will provide the professional leadership clinical leadership management and support to facilitate the speech and language therapy team to provide a quality Speech and Language Therapy Service to meet the needs of the population
The Speech and Language Therapist Manager-in-Charge III will work collaboratively with the following:
Head of Primary Care and the wider primary care team members
General managers community healthcare network managers team co-ordinators for Integrated Care Programme specialist teams and network GP leads
Public Health and Community Nursing
Other Heads of Service and other therapy managers / discipline managers
Health and social care professional colleagues both acute and community e.g. speech and language therapy staff operational managers
Key personnel in other divisions agencies and relevant organisations.
