Description

The Advanced Practice Nursing Manager is responsible for coordination and assurance of comprehensive health care using advanced practice nursing process and pertinent standards of care the diagnosis of illness and physical conditions performance of diagnostic therapeutic corrective and prescriptive measures in collaboration with appropriate specialty and site-based physicians. The APN Manager is responsible for delivering operational leadership to Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) in inpatient and ambulatory setting fostering clinical integration optimizing workflows and supporting excellence in advanced practice care.

The APN Manager supervises and directs a designated group of advanced practice nurses within distinct specialty areas of practice. These APNs may diagnose treat and prescribe for a patients condition within their specialty area of practice. Specialty areas may include but not limited to: Acute Care; Adult Health; College Health; Community Health; Family Health; Gerontology; Holistic Nursing; Neonatology; Obstetrics and Gynecology; Oncology; Palliative Care; Pediatrics; Perinatology; Psychiatry; School Health; and Womens Health. The Advanced Practice Nursing Manager supervises the optimization of APN clinical practice within a service line for the delivery of health care to patients while promoting a culture of patient-centered care that emphasizes service and compassion. Serves as a liaison to nursing medicine department chairs/chiefs care management administration and other department leadership. Ensures APNs meet institutional compliance with regulatory agencies.

The APN Manager is responsible for overseeing administrative operations related to designated Physician Assistants (PAs) including workflow optimization and scheduling. While the APN Manager provides leadership in administrative domains clinical oversight and accountability for PA practice remain under the purview of the designated MD supervisor and PA lead.



Responsibilities

Clinical Practice
the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination.
selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures consultations and laboratory examination prescribes medication regimens interprets findings and alters plan of care according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
and counsels in the areas of health promotion maintenance disease prevention and management of acute/chronic illnesses.
findings and plan of care in the patients medical record.
with physician according to established standards policies procedures and protocols.
referrals to specialty services and fosters continuity of care.
in team meetings and conferences to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery.
a patient record review with the collaborating physician in a timely fashion but not less than every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement.
as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and the bylaws of the Hospital Staff.
current expertise in area of practice

Administrative
with the Director of Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) and Chair or Service Chief of the respective clinical department in the recruitment retention and human resource management of APPs assigned to respective service.
APN staff performance mentors coaches counsels and disciplines staff up to and including termination.
guides and monitors APNs and interdisciplinary team members (including PAs) related to scheduling assignments and coordination of services.
implements and monitors budgets including capital equipment allocation budget variances management of OT and vacancies according to MSHS financial goals.
control of established positions and manages the recruitment and retention of qualified staff.
regular staff meetings to ensure communication with staff about progress changes and compliance with all hospital policies and procedures.
the on-boarding and orientation as well as ongoing professional development of nurse practitioners.
clinical activities of APNs to accomplish established safety and quality measures.
leadership and develops effective team building.
departmental goals in collaboration with division chief and other key personnel
knowledge of and commitment to service excellence; role models Mount Sinai Service Standards.
in relevant hospital-wide committees.
as a liaison between inpatient and outpatient areas to assure continuity of care.
FPPE/OPPE of Advanced Practice Nurses on the assigned service.
with collaborating physicians division chief and department administrators to ensure that clinical practice systems are supportive of clinical care.
utilization of APNs to optimize their scope of clinical practice.

Qualifications
  • Masters degree in nursing required
  • DNP preferred
  • 5+ years minimum of relevant clinical advanced practice nursing.
  • Previous Nursing leadership and management experience preferred.
  • Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Current certification and registration as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State
  • Current license and registration as a Professional Registered Nurse in NY State
  • National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing required
  • Credentialed and privileged as APN at the respective site of practice.
