Portfolio Advisor

At Northern Trust the Portfolio Advisor manages a full set of feeproducing investment accounts generally for small to midsized personal trust relationships and individual investors requiring a baseline level of technical expertise and versatility with an expanding knowledge of a broad range of investment solutions. This role requires certification and continuous growth in the utilization and appropriate execution of the GoalsDriven client experience emerging technology capabilities investment methodologies and the full suite of investment solutions delivered in coordination and collaboration with the broader client service team.

What Youll Do

  • Manage investment activities for an assigned account base of fee revenueproducing accounts representing small to midsized personal trust relationships and individual portfolios typically midrange in size and complexity within the market.
  • Assist in the development of investment strategies and recommendations designed to achieve the investment objectives of specific individual clients.
  • Analyze and manage overall investment strategies with continuous revision as client goals and objectives change working closely and proactively with the broader client service team to identify and execute areas of opportunity aligned with client needs.
  • Maintain an influential presence within the local clientfacing team and with clients cotrustees consultants the banks legal area and outside attorneys to ensure effective communication of client requirements and coordination of portfolio activity.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with new investment strategies tools and capabilities including portfolio research and investment methodologies through ongoing engagement with the National Investment and GoalsDriven Wealth Management Practices peers and broader Wealth and Asset Management teams.
  • Maintain accountability for personal adherence to best practices as measured by the PM Dashboard and related reporting.
  • Execute assigned initiatives new capability rollouts and required training in support of business and investment practice objectives.
  • Provide feedback to leadership on areas for improvement related to national initiatives changes and expectations.
  • Adhere to National Investment Guidelines feedback from the REV peer review process and sound risk management practices applying appropriate judgment in increasingly complex situations.
  • Solve complex investmentrelated problems using analytical and practical judgment.

What Will Make You Successful in the Role

  • Knowledge of investment and portfolio management theory accounting and financial principles investment strategies and instruments and characteristics of various marketplaces typically acquired through formal education and relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated decisionmaking sales and negotiation skills to contribute to market revenue generation and guide sensitive or complex situations through to resolution.
  • Indepth conceptual and practical knowledge within the role and basic knowledge of related job disciplines.
  • Minimum of 68 years of investment experience which may include research with consistent longterm investment performance meeting stated objectives.
  • Ability to act as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
  • Preference towards candidates who have a CFA CFP or other professional designation.
