Job Title: High School Science Teacher (183 Days)
Reports To: Principal Assistant Principal and/or Science Department Chair
Position Overview
In alignment with the mission of Dedham Public Schools to promote excellence in learning self-discipline and motivation the High School Science Teacher fosters a dynamic inquiry-driven classroom environment. This role emphasizes scientific thinking collaboration and culturally responsive practices to support diverse learners and cultivate an inclusive safe and engaging learning community.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach five sections of high school science aligned with the 2016 Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering (STE) Frameworks
- Design and implement engaging phenomena-based lessons that integrate science practices and real-world applications
- Differentiate instruction to meet the academic linguistic and social-emotional needs of all students
- Establish and maintain a safe respectful and inclusive classroom environment that promotes equity and student voice
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary and vertically aligned curriculum
- Use assessment data to inform instruction monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed
- Participate in department building and IEP meetings as well as parent/guardian conferences
- Maintain consistent effective communication with families to support student success
- Uphold laboratory safety standards and ensure proper use of equipment and materials
- Support and implement district and school-based initiatives
Qualifications
Required:
- Massachusetts DESE licensure in High School Science (Grades 912) in Biology Chemistry Physics or related field
- Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement
- Knowledge of the 2016 MA STE Frameworks
Preferred:
- Experience with phenomena-based or storyline-driven curriculum design
- Familiarity with inclusive instructional practices and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
