About the role

As a Software & Data Engineer you will play a key role in developing andmaintaining software and data platforms that support our engineering business and client-facingwork.Key areas of responsibility will be datahandlingdevelopment and maintenance ofcloud and cluster systems as well as general softwaredevelopmenttasks.You will work closely with engineers and data users contributing to both technical delivery internal businessoperationsand continuous improvement of our development practices.


Your key responsibilities


Software Development & Engineering

  • Facilitate and contribute todevelopmentand overall architectureofengineering software solutionsmainly inPython and/or MATLAB
  • Create andmaintainclient-facing web applicationse.g.usingFlask
  • Promote best practice software development including version control (GitHub) collaborative development releasemanagementand documentation

Data & Analytics

  • Buildmaintainandoptimisesystems for complex datasets in Databricks
  • Design and implement scalable cloud-based ELT and ETLBIpipelines
  • Support in developofPowerBIreporting to support Finance HRengineeringand wider business teams
  • Work with SQL and NoSQL databases to enable efficient data storage and integrationacross theorganisation

Infrastructure & Systems

  • Developimproveandmaintainthe in-houseHTCondorhigh-throughput compute clusteronKubernetes implementing Docker-based containerization to ensure scalable and reproducible workloads
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure seamless software and infrastructure compatibility

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Support the integration of AI and machine learning including LLMs into engineering workflows
  • Contribute to automation and enhanced decision-making across the business


Qualifications & Preferred Background


Essential

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Mathematics Physics Engineering Computer Science or a related technical field
  • Around 2 years experience using Python and/or MATLAB for numerical modelling or scientific computing
  • Familiarity with tools such as Databricks and Power BI
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g.Azure) Docker Kubernetesandhigh-throughput computingsystems(e.g.HTCondor)
  • Understanding of version control and collaborative development (e.g.GitHub CI/CD test-driven development)
  • Experience working with databases and SQL with an understanding of data-driven application development
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently on technical tasks

Desirable

  • Exposure to web development (e.g.Flask HTML CSS JavaScript)
  • Awareness or interest in AI/ML tools (e.g.TensorFlowPyTorch) and large language models
  • Experience withLinux cluster environments (bash scripting job submission resource management)
  • Experience with GIS tools or geospatial data
