Job Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating facilitating and managing the special education evaluation process for preschool students in the district and CIS Transitions. The role requires the ability to manage multiple evaluations simultaneously while maintaining a high level of organization communication and adherence to Vermont Special Education Rules and Regulations. The evaluator will work closely with classroom teachers special educators related service providers building principals and parents to ensure timely and thorough evaluations. The ideal candidate will possess strong facilitation organizational and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities

    • Comprehensive Evaluations: Administer score and interpret standardized assessments to evaluate articulation language fluency and voice.
    • Play-Based Assessment: Conduct informal observations and play-based evaluations to capture a holistic view of a childs communicative intent and social-pragmatic skills.
    • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Partner with early childhood special educators occupational and physical therapists community based providers and early childhood educators to create comprehensive evaluations.
    • IEP Development: Lead or participate in Eligibility Meetings and initial Individualized Education Program (IEP) development based on assessment data.

  • District Evaluator Partnership: Collaborate and consult with the preschool district evaluator to share and compare assessment results co-facilitate meetings calibrate assessment data and support CIS transitions.

    • Family Advocacy: Explain complex diagnostic results to parents and caregivers in accessible empathetic and culturally responsive language.
    • Compliance: Maintain meticulous records and ensure all evaluations meet state and federal (IDEA) timelines.
    • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development related to special education evaluation processes and keep updated with changes to laws and regulations related to special education.
    • CIS Transition: Participate in and support facilitation of CIS transition meetings.

  • Itinerant Services: Provide itinerant services for a small group of identified students.
  • Flexibility: Ability to be flexible and perform additional duties (screeners consultation with teams etc.) based on student and programming needs.

  • Other Duties:
    • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.
    • Keeps abreast of current best practices research and special education laws.
    • Consult with and advise educators or medical staff on speech or hearing topics such as communication strategies and speech and language stimulation.
    • Support building-based teams with eMTSS
    • Shows professionalism and considers Whats best for students in serving and advocating for students and in decision-making.
    • Follows all school policies and procedures in order for MMUUSD to adhere to all Federal State and OSHA regulations.
    • Responsible for safety in the workplace by creating a safe work environment reporting safety concerns to an administrator and adhering to all safety rules and regulations.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Final Evaluation Reporting:
    • Complete and distribute the final comprehensive special education evaluation report by the identified deadline.
    • Ensure all documents (evaluation report meeting minutes LEA notice parental rights) are shared with parents and team members.
    • File documents in EdDoc and the students special education file.
  • Post-Eligibility Actions:
    • If not eligible work with school administration to determine next steps including possible referral to EST team.

Education:

Masters Degree

Licenses and Endorsement:

Valid SLP License in the State of Vermont and a Clinical Fellowship
