Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

TeHerenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for a Recovery & Stabilisation Manager (Web) to join the Takitoru - Communications Marketing and Digital Engagement team on a fixed-term full-time contract until October 2026.

We are seeking an experienced web and digital service leader to support the stable daytoday operation of our primary website while our new website is prepared for golive later this year.

This is an important management role with clear accountability and strong executive support. Youll take overall responsibility for a missioncritical digital service working closely with staff vendors and partners to ensure it is reliable resilient and wellmanaged during a period of transition.

If you enjoy bringing clarity structure and confidence to complex digital environments this role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful contribution. Youll have endtoend responsibility for the current web platforms availability performance risk and recovery.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operational health of a Tier1 web platform used by students staff and the public.
  • Lead and coordinate incident response recovery and prevention activities.
  • Establish and maintain sound service management practices including monitoring runbooks escalation paths and reporting.
  • Lead and support staff contractors and vendors through a stabilisation period.
  • Work with vendors to meet service levels response expectations and agreed improvements.
  • Implement approved recommendations arising from a recent critical outage.
  • Communicate clearly with senior leaders translating technical matters into plainEnglish updates and decisions.

Youll sit within Takitoru - Communications Marketing and Digital Engagement working closely with Te Tai Matihiko - Digital Solutions and will be onsite at Kelburn at least three days per week.

Youre a calm credible leader who brings structure and reassurance to complex operational environments and takes a thoughtful preventative approach to risk and service continuity.

Key requirements:

  • Senior experience owning or managing a web platform or business critical digital service.
  • Proven leadership of people contractors and vendors through periods of change or transition.
  • Experience with incident management and service recovery.
  • Confidence managing high availability services with reputational impact.
  • Strong stakeholder skills including clear and effective communication at senior levels.
  • A practical outcomes focused approach.

Its a bonus if you have:

  • Experience in large or complex organisations (public sector or tertiary helpful but not required).
  • Familiarity with CDNs monitoring tools and modern web architectures.
  • Experience introducing service tiering ITIL aligned practices or operational maturity.
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive ways of working.
