OSU Harding Hospital/East Hospital-Talbot Hall provides the most comprehensive behavioral healthcare services for adults in central Ohio. We offer more treatment options and a more experienced and diversified staff than any other psychiatric or behavioral healthcare provider in the area. All of our psychiatric emergency behavioral health urgent care inpatient outpatient IOP and partial hospitalization services include a comprehensive evaluation diagnosis from a qualified clinician and implementation of an individualized treatment plan. We offer specialized evidence-based services for patients experiencing psychiatric emergency & crisis need for behavioral health urgent care mood and anxiety disorders obsessive-compulsive disorder psychosis trauma- and stress-related disorders and sexual dysfunction. We offer specialty programs in womens behavioral health addictions trauma adolescent school-based and neurocognitive disorders. Talbot Hall provides the most comprehensive addiction services for adults in central Ohio offering specialized evidence-based services for patients experiencing a substance use disorder. We offer traumatic brain injury specific treatment the latest Medicated Assisted Treatment for opiate and alcohol use disorders. Talbot offers detox Intensive Outpatient partial hospitalization and many outpatient and continuing care groups. Patients and their family will experience the benefits of patient-focused care through the integrated skills of all treatment team members. BHUC Clinicians serve as a critical part of our clinical team; they are an independent provider who functions within the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team to provide assessment counseling and psychotherapy.

OSU Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) provides shortterm outpatient services that bridge gaps in mental health and substance use treatment. Operated by OSUWMC and Ohio States Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health BHUC offers adults immediate support for mental health or substance use concerns through walkin or scheduled visitseither in person or via telehealth. It serves as an alternative to the Emergency Department for routine or urgent behavioral health needs and provides rapidaccess followup appointments within seven days of psychiatric inpatient or ED discharge.

BHUC delivers shortterm psychotherapy psychiatric medication evaluation and management and limited case management for patients at risk of behavioral health decompensation or substance use escalation. Care is available for up to two months and is not intended as longterm treatment.

BHUC Powell (Opening August 2026)

Outpatient Care Powell 7171 Sawmill Parkway Powell OH 43065

Focus under development; will align with the existing BHUC programs.

In January 2026 BHUC expanded to a second location on the first floor of Talbot Hall at OSU East Hospital with a third site planned at OSU Outpatient Care Powell in August 2026. Together the three locations operate under a unified framework with differentiated focuses in mental health and substance use treatment. This structure expands access reduces fragmentation and better supports patients with complex behavioral health needs.

All BHUC locations focus on stabilizing immediate concerns connecting patients to long term treatment resources both within and outside OSUWMC. Care is delivered by a multidisciplinary team of advanced practice providers nurses psychiatrists addiction medicine physicians independently licensed behavioral health therapists and certified peer supporters. Servicesoffered in person or virtuallyinclude medication management brief psychotherapy and other short-term interventions. BHUC provides care for up to two months and is not intended for long term treatment.

POSITION SUMMARY

Clinical and education position including but not limited to:

  • Complete comprehensive diagnostic evaluation for patients with mental health substance-use and crisis-related complaints.
  • Provide counseling/psychotherapy to individuals with mental behavioral and/or substance use disorders to facilitate return to previous or improved functioning. Services provided include individual psychotherapy group psychotherapy and/or couple/family therapy.
  • Conduct evidenced-based suicide crisis and risk assessments & intervention.
  • Formulate individualized treatment plans to assist patients to determine and meet treatment goals.
  • Assess patient needs and coordinate linkage with necessary services and community resources.
  • Other duties include assisting with insurance verification precertification and telephone consultation to referral sources regarding access to behavioral health and addiction services advocating within local community if needed; work as part of clinical team; maintain third-party payer relationships; and complete all necessary paperwork (e.g. disability FMLA); maintain third-party payer relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: Masters Degree in Social Work or Counseling or education accepted by the State of Ohio for licensure. Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC) required. LISW or LPCC preferred. 1 year of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.

Ongoing: Maintain licensure(s) credentials and CBLs. Practice within the parameters of the Ohio Counselor and Social Work Board Ohio Chemical Dependency Professional Board. Training in at least one evidence-based psychotherapy modality (e.g. cognitive-behavioral interpersonal psychotherapy motivational interviewing) will be required.
