Job Summary

POSITION SUMMARY:

The MTSS Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring that the schools intervention systems operate with clarity consistency and fidelity enabling teams to respond proactively to student needs and ensuring that all scholars receive the supports necessary to succeed. The MTSS Coordinator supports the implementation and continuous improvement of the schools Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to ensure that all scholars receive the academic behavioral and social-emotional supports necessary to succeed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This role serves as the building-level lead for MTSS implementation facilitating data-driven problem solving coordinating intervention systems and ensuring that evidence-based supports are implemented with fidelity.

MTSS at Breakthrough Public Schools is designed as a comprehensive system of support that integrates academic behavioral and social-emotional data and interventions. The MTSS Coordinator ensures that teams analyze these domains collectively in order to identify student needs implement appropriate interventions and monitor progress over time.

This role ensures that the MTSS process moves beyond a traditional academic RtI model by supporting holistic problem-solving that considers instructional behavioral and social-emotional factors impacting student success.

While the MTSS Coordinator reports to the building principal the role collaborates closely with the Director of MTSS to ensure alignment with network priorities Breakthrough expectations and best practices.

The MTSS Coordinator works across academic culture and student services teams to ensure the schools intervention systems are coherent and responsive to student needs positioning the role to support integrated student support systems regardless of organizational structure.

MTSS Implementation & Leadership

  • Lead the implementation of the schools integrated Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework ensuring that academic behavioral and social-emotional data are analyzed together to inform student interventions.
  • Facilitate building-level Student Support / MTSS meetings to review student performance and determine appropriate evidence-based interventions.
  • Guide staff through structured problem-solving processes to identify root causes of student challenges across instructional behavioral and environmental factors.
  • Support staff in implementing Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions aligned with Breakthrough MTSS guidance and research-based practices.
  • Promote systems-level thinking that ensures intervention efforts are coordinated consistent and responsive to student needs.

Data Monitoring & Systems Management

  • Monitor school-wide and student-level data using the network data management platforms identifying trends successes and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support school teams in analyzing academic assessment data behavioral data attendance trends and social-emotional indicators to inform intervention decisions.
  • Maintain accurate MTSS documentation and intervention tracking systems aligned with network expectations.
  • Ensure intervention data is consistently collected and used to inform adjustments to student support plans.

Intervention Fidelity & Implementation Support

  • Support the collection and analysis of student data to ensure high fidelity implementation of interventions.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions and support teams in adjusting strategies based on student progress.
  • Provide guidance to teachers and intervention staff regarding progress monitoring practices and intervention implementation.
  • Ensure interventions are implemented across academic behavioral and social-emotional domains collaborating with instructional leaders culture teams and student services staff.
  • Collaborate with academic and culture teams to ensure interventions are aligned with classroom instruction and school-wide systems of support.

Family Partnership & Student Advocacy

  • Serve as a supportive partner to families helping ensure that parents understand the MTSS process the interventions being implemented and how progress is monitored.
  • Act as a student advocate ensuring that scholars receive timely and appropriate interventions based on their demonstrated needs.
  • Support staff in maintaining clear and transparent communication with families regarding intervention plans and student progress.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure students receiving interventions experience coordinated support across academic behavioral and social-emotional domains.

MTSS Process Management & Student Tracking

The MTSS Coordinator actively manages and monitors the movement of students through the MTSS process to ensure timely interventions that address academic attendance behavioral and social-emotional needs.

Responsibilities include maintaining systems to track:

  • Students currently receiving Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions
  • Intervention start dates and duration
  • Type of intervention and instructional strategy being implemented
  • Frequency and minutes of intervention services
  • Progress monitoring data and growth trends
  • Fidelity of intervention implementation
  • Students demonstrating insufficient progress despite interventions
  • Students entering or exiting intervention tiers
  • Students being considered for further evaluation based on intervention data
  • Students re-entering intervention due to regression or emerging needs

The MTSS Coordinator regularly reviews these data points with building leadership and the Director of MTSS to ensure that students move through the MTSS process in a timely data-informed manner.

MTSS System Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor the effectiveness of the schools MTSS system by analyzing intervention entry rates exit rates referral patterns and student progress trends.
  • Share insights with building leadership and the Director of MTSS to strengthen intervention systems and improve student outcomes.
  • Support the school in continuously improving intervention practices based on data fidelity of implementation and emerging needs.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as a liaison between building teams and the Director of MTSS to ensure alignment of intervention practices and network priorities.
  • Partner with intervention specialists teachers school psychologists and related service providers to support coordinated student supports.
  • Collaborate with building leadership to ensure MTSS systems are integrated with instructional and culture initiatives.
  • Support staff in understanding and implementing MTSS practices across grade levels and teams.

Compliance & Policy Alignment

  • Ensure MTSS systems align with Breakthrough expectations and state guidelines related to intervention and early identification of student needs.
  • Support building leadership in maintaining documentation of intervention efforts that may inform future referral or evaluation decisions when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Compliance Manager and DSS&C when MTSS data suggests a student may require additional evaluation or services.

The MTSS Coordinator does not manage special education case management IEP implementation or compliance timelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Education Special Education School Psychology or a related field

Preferred

  • Masters degree in Education Special Education School Psychology or a related field

Experience:

  • Experience implementing or supporting MTSS RtI or intervention systems
  • Experience analyzing student data to inform instructional or intervention decisions
  • Strong facilitation collaboration and organizational skills

Preferred

  • Experience with EduClimber or similar data platforms
  • Experience facilitating collaborative problem-solving teams
  • Experience working within urban public or charter school environments

Licensure and Certification(s):

  • List all licensures and certifications required or preferred.
  • Candidate must possess a valid drivers license with a driving record in accordance with the BPSs acceptable guidelines.
