Job Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Responsible for managing all aspects of the Admitting Department Outpatient and Inpatient Registration and the registration areas to include scheduling. Ensures efficient correct scheduling and admission of inpatients and the registration process for individuals who are registering.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school or equivalent required
- Associates degree in business or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years previous experience in a hospital setting in registration verification of medical benefits and scheduling required.
- Basic knowledge of Center for Medicare and Medicaid billing rules and regulations required.
- Basic knowledge of the hospital revenue cycle required.
- Basic knowledge of effective written and oral communication with departmental managers and senior leadership required.
- Basic knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Excel and Word required.
- Advanced knowledge of patient registrations verification of benefits and scheduling or OR time required for surgeons.
- Skills necessary to communicate Center for Medicare and Medicaid billing rules and regulations to departmental managers required.
- Skills necessary to compile and analyze large amounts of data using MS Excel including downloading data as well as using formulas pivot table and lookups required.
- Skills necessary to communicate effectively with department managers and senior leadership required.
- Skills necessary to be well organized and self-motivated required.
- Skills necessary to be able to communicate effectively with surgeons offices as well as with surgeons themselves required.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited information or standardization exists required.
- Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and then draw valid conclusions required.
- Ability to effectively present information and resolve questions from managers and senior leadership required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for the Admitting Department including scheduling pre-admitting patients
- verifying insurance eligibility admitting patients according to the hospitals policies and procedures.
- Manages the pre-certification and verification of benefits activities according to the hospitals policies and procedures.
- Responsible for training and orienting the Admitting Department on issues such as Conditions of Admissions advanced directives patient rights and responsibilities and HIPAA.
- Responsible for training the Admitting Department Clerks on how to handle patients concerns complaints and grievances.
- Communicates clearly and concisely with other department managers and works closely with the Business Office Manager on rectifying any registration errors that impact the billing of claims.
- Adheres and ensures that Admitting Clerks follow financial/cash policies for any monies collected over the counter.
- Establishes and maintains specific and necessary planning for adequate registration staff based on volume.
- Ensure appropriate systems in place to monitor quality of information gathered and entered in the computer system and monitors to ensure performance measures are met.
- Responsible for education staff on performance improvement activities related to the Admitting Office.
- Ensures that the Admitting Department Clerks are gathering and entering accurate information from the patient into the computer system.
- Manages the scheduling of OR time according to the hospitals policies and procedures.
- Monitors the registration and verification of benefits activities at our off-site physical therapy wound care and sleep study clinics.
- Works as a liaison between the surgeons offices and the hospitals registration verification and scheduling activities.
- Manage staffing including but not limited to scheduling time card approval and PTO requests.
- All other duties as assigned.
