JOB SUMMARY: As a Lead Youth Development Professional working with children graded K-5th at the Elkton School District your role is to create a safe engaging and nurturing environment that fosters the social emotional cognitive and physical development of young children. You will be responsible for planning and implementing age-appropriate activities guiding children through structured learning experiences and supporting their developmental milestones.
JOB DUTIES:
- Create weekly programming plans that promote continued education creativity and social skills. Activities should be tailored to meet the developmental needs of youth in grades K-5th.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all children by maintaining a secure and inclusive environment. Supervise children during activities meals and playtime.
- Use positive reinforcement and developmentally appropriate strategies to guide childrens behavior.
- Help develop problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills through a youth success plan when necessary.
- Maintain open communication with parents or guardians regarding their childs progress behavior and any concerns.
- Responsible for opening and closing of program space(s).
- Organize and maintain a stimulating clean and orderly classroom that encourages exploration and learning. Ensure that materials and resources are readily available and suitable for the childrens age group.
- Work collaboratively with other staff members including teachers aides and administrators to ensure a cohesive and effective program.
- Promote an inclusive environment that respects the diverse backgrounds of all children and families.
- Assist with interviewing hiring and disciplining of Club employees as assigned.
- Supervise assigned employees which includes writing 60-day reviews performance plans and holding weekly and bi-weekly one on one meetings.
- Build relationships with Club parents through professional phone calls e-mails daily communication etc.
- Assist with budget tracking for programming.
- Responsible for building reports on a daily weekly and as-needed basis.
- Exhibit the Club Values of excellence impact driven teamwork and good character.
- Attend Club trainings including the monthly all staff meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with youth.
- Strong communication patience creativity and a passion for working with young children.
- Management/Supervisory Experience
- Commitment to working five days a week during the school year and during the summer
- Commitment to make class schedule for upcoming semester meet the scheduling needs of the Boys & Girls Club (if applicable)
- Must be able to work within the school year operating hours of the Club.
- Must be able to work within the summer operating hours of the Club.
- Must be able to understand implement and demonstrate principles of behavior management and other youth treatment modalities per the Club trainings and values of fun supportive relationships recognition opportunities and expectations and safety.
- Must be able to provide leadership on-the-spot and reflective feedback and supervision to assigned employees to ensure they too understand and demonstrate principles of behavior management and other youth treatment modalities per the Club trainings and values of fun supportive relationships recognition opportunities and expectations and safety.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be of the mental and physical capacity to observe interact and communicate with youth staff volunteers parents etc. at the Club to ensure safety of the space and others provide guidance and reflection per the Club priority outcomes and goals
- Ability to stand/sit for long periods of time throughout a shift
- Ability to operate various types of general office equipment including PC telephone copier etc.
- This position is considered to be safety-sensitive.
