Position Summary

The Safety Manager is responsible for developing implementing and overseeing comprehensive safety programs across all construction projects. This role ensures compliance with federal state and local regulations while fostering a proactive safety culture that prioritizes the well-being of all employees subcontractors and site visitors. The Safety Manager serves as a key partner to project teams promoting safe work practices and continuous improvement in safety performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and enforcement of company-wide safety policies and procedures in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with OSHA standards and other applicable safety regulations across all job sites
  • Conduct regular job site inspections audits and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions
  • Partner with project managers superintendents and field staff to proactively address safety concerns and integrate safety into project planning
  • Investigate incidents near misses and injuries; prepare detailed reports and implement corrective and preventive measures
  • Facilitate and deliver safety training programs toolbox talks and onboarding for employees and subcontractors
  • Maintain accurate safety records including incident logs training documentation and compliance reporting
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure adherence to company safety standards and expectations
  • Lead safety meetings and contribute to company-wide safety initiatives and continuous improvement efforts
  • Stay current on changes to safety regulations and industry trends; recommend updates to policies as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety Construction Management or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • 5 years of safety management experience in the construction industry
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards
  • OSHA 30-hour certification required (OSHA 500/510 preferred)
  • Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) are a plus
  • Excellent communication leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and documentation
  • Ability to travel in and around Chicago and its suburbs. Occasional travel out of state.
