The overall purpose of this position is to manage the workflow of digital assets and articles conversion vendor management in-house staff support for post-conversion processes and help-desk support for Editorial staff and Authors in order to produce best-in-class article production.
The incumbent in this position is expected to partner with Publishing Technology staff and editorial staff on assigned projects and create monitor and refine automated processes troubleshoot and resolve complex issues and implement procedural changes as appropriate. The incumbent manages the scheduling and production of text graphics and multimedia conversion and metadata capture. Manages other projects as assigned by the Director Digital Assets & Editorial Support Services.
This position Reports to the Director of Digital Assets & Editorial Support Services and manages 5 direct Reports. The incumbent has authoritative responsibility for digital assets information conversion and editorial support in the absence of the Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Manages Information Conversion and Editorial Support strategy development enhancement plans business prioritization market delivery and related business and operational processes.
- Manages digital assets workflows.
- Acts as co-product owner with the Director Digital Assets & Editorial Support Services for WMS and its related systems POPP and AG identifying ongoing issues and risks to release plans and delivery schedules and proactively coordinates activities with stakeholders to resolve identified issues.
- Continuously assesses existing workflow processes and affects change through process improvements.
- Interacts frequently with our key vendors to ensure continuous improvement defining and implementing best practices.
- Manages in-house staff support for post-conversion processes and help-desk support for editorial staff and Author gateway and POPP Applications.
- Continuously monitors progress and status of editorial services release activities milestones deliverables and business impacts.
- Work involves creative and adaptive thinking. Resolves non-routine problems by applying general policies practices procedures and principles. Timely escalate the issues to the Pub Tech team or help desk for resolution as needed.
- Work collaboratively across business units to communicate with technical teams to evaluate current processes and systems discuss Best Practices and communicate product roadmaps that fulfill the needs of our customers and stakeholders while ensuring timely delivery of enhancements.
- Keeps current with developments in XML or future Markup Language deployment and usage and keeps current with the use of XML editing/composition software and content workflow systems.
- Run Reports as requested by senior management.
- Participates in teams to support IEEEs product development and management as well as related R&D activities.
- Curates IEEE digital content in the IDAMS data repository/archive and exports IDAMS content according to prescribed time guidelines to IEEE Xplore or any future online platform products or services that make use of this content.
- Serve as IEEEs subject matter expert (SME) for projects that relate to addition processing archiving or curation for new content content loading and data enhancement of the existing publishing content and the IDAMS archive.
- Curates IEEE IDAMS content. IDAMS contains information in a database that is an archive of IEEEs publication material. This content is disseminated under this positions supervision via IEEE Xplore. The IDAMS content and metadata about the content are used to develop a variety of IEEE information product offerings.
- Manages Publication Digital Assets staff including hiring termination and performance management and recommends employment salaries annual merit increases and other pay adjustments.
- Partners with colleagues in the Publishing Technology and Information Technology departments to facilitate the exchange of metadata and content for publications electronically with various IEEE and non-IEEE partners (e.g. INSPEC PubMed etc.).
- Analyze data related to IEEE publishing information and develop any necessary reports to IEEE management or reply to queries or resolve problems.
- Manages the creation updating and application of enhancements to IEEE digital content so that Xplore users may search and discover the IEEE content that best suits their research needs. (Includes similar work for non-IEEE content as specified by IEEE upper management.)
- Analyze data related to IDAMS information content and IDAMS performance and develop necessary reports to satisfy queries or resolve problems.
- Makes decisions on work processes and schedules and additional metadata fields or content to be added to the IDAMS repository and related data DTDs.
- Provides SME expertise on emerging opportunities in topics of interest to IEEE especially in online publishing with the goal of updating and/or assisting the Marketing and Sales Department.
