Job Summary
The Clinical Coordinator - ECMO reflects the mission vision and values of Northwestern Medicine adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies procedures guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Clinical Coordinator - ECMO provides clinical services to patients and support services to the ECMO program. This position makes referrals to external clinicians or treatment programs or other community resources as appropriate and in accordance with established departmental protocol. The ECMO Coordinator will work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to facilitate quality care and provide clinical expertise to the campus ECMO program. (S)he will apply scientific basis/evidenced-based practice towards clinical practice as appropriate to his/her clinical licensure.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in the development of individualized plans of care based upon diagnoses/health history problems with consideration of patients culture age and developmental level.
- Serves as a liaison between Nursing Perfusion Respiratory Therapy and other consultative services to ensure proper collaboration and management of care.
- Collaborates with Physical Therapy and ECMO Specialists to ensure safe ambulation and physical activity of patient according to the patients needs and plan of care.
- Serves as communication link between patient family and the interdisciplinary team.
- Facilitate and assist with the supervision of ECMO Specialists to ensure proper standards of care have been met.
- Provide direct orientation and ongoing training of the ECMO Specialists and ensure all ECMO Specialists receive and complete continuing education.
- Assists in the development of the ECMO programs policies and procedures.
- Ensures equipment and supplies are readily available and maintain the proper functioning of equipment
- May require on-call responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Required:
- Registered/licensed in the State of Illinois as Registered Nurse
- Baccalaureate degree required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- At least two years of practice in a Critical Care/ICU setting
Preferred:
- Masters degree
- Specialty certification such as Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) Adult Critical Care Specialty (ACCS)
- Previous experience as an ECMO Specialist and/or Unit Coordinator
