What Youll Be Doing:
Responsibilities include the installation maintenance overhaul and repair of various preservation and support systems including dehumidification machinery cathodic protection systems and fire and flooding alarm equipment. This also encompasses associated components such as motors transformers control panels rectifiers sensing devices and automatic control coordination with the Inspection Department the incumbent performs periodic inspections and functional tests of preservation equipment using appropriate diagnostic tools documenting results for official records and reports.
Additional duties involve the fabrication installation and wiring of a variety of electrical components including switch panels indicating devices resistance heating elements lighting fixtures and power or lighting cubicles.
The position also includes the installation and repair of shore power systems for berthed vessels. While the workload is generally moderate periods of elevated activity can occur during power outages adverse weather conditions or ship movements. Work conditions may occasionally involve operating at elevated heights climbing vertical or inclined ladders and assuming physically demanding positions such as kneeling stooping or maneuvering in confined spaces.
- Install maintain troubleshoot and repair electrical and preservation systems (e.g. dehumidification cathodic protection fire/flood alarms) including motors transformers rectifiers control panels and automated controls.
- Conduct inspections testing and documentation of equipment performance; fabricate wire and install electrical components such as panels lighting and heating units.
- Perform ship support tasks including shore power installation/repair and flood alarm system setup/testing often independently and in dynamic operational environments.
- Work safely in physically demanding conditions (heights confined spaces lifting up to 60 lbs over a distance of 200 feet) respond to emergencies and collaborate across teams to ensure operational readiness and compliance.
What Youll Need to Succeed:
Minimum Requirements:
- Required five (5) years electrical Navy or Coast Guard shipboard experience
- 3 phase wiring and 220 / 440 wiring.
Preferred:
- 5 years Navy Shipyard experience with 3 phase wiring and 220 / 440 wiring
Knowledge Required:
- Must be able to read small print and hear sufficiently to detect unusual sounds in motors blowers and running machinery.
- May be exposed to electrical shock steel projections falls poor lighting and hazardous chemicals and conditions.
- Position requires a background check.
- Must be a US Citizen.
