Job Summary

WU is currently inviting applications for the position of a full professor1 of Business Communication at the Department of Business Communication (part-time 20% duration of employment is 2 years). Candidates are expected to have established an international reputation in the field and contribute actively to the Departments research and teaching.

Reflecting this focus the masters program in Business Communication is a key feature of the Departments teaching activities. The Department is also actively involved in delivering significant contributions to the universitys bachelors programs. The Departments course portfolio at all levels is largely taught in English.

This 20% professorship is intended to further sharpen the Departments research profile enhance its interdisciplinary connections and strengthen its methodological diversity at the interface of communication studies linguistics as well as business and economics.

Qualifications

Candidates qualifications will be assessed in the context of their academic age on the basis of the following characteristics:

a) A solid academic qualification (e.g. PhD habilitation or equivalent)

b) An excellent international reputation in an area that matches the Departments research profile with a particular focus on language-sensitive approaches to organization and management

c) Excellence in research demonstrated by publications in top-tier outlets in the field

d) Methodological expertise and experience showing a clear focus on qualitative methods and critical approaches

e) Excellence in teaching and supervision at graduate and postgraduate levels

f) Potential for attracting research funding

g) Active engagement in the international scientific community

h) An interdisciplinary mindset

i) Leadership qualities

j) Gender and diversity management skills

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Actively contribute to the Departments research profile and publication output both independently and in collaboration with department faculty.
  • Take part in the Departments research seminars and be committed to fostering the dialog between diverse disciplines investigating business communication.
  • Contribute to funding applications submitted by the Departments faculty.
  • Join in the Departments third-mission activities.
  • Teach and carry out supervision at all levels (bachelors masters PhD/doctorate and executive education).
  • Teach 2 weekly credit hours (delivered largely in person).
  • Be physically present at the Department for a total of at least 3 weeks per semester in order to facilitate teaching supervision and face-to-face scholarly exchange with the Departments faculty.
