Position Overview
The Camp Counselor position works under the guidance of research project specialist to support the overall student residential experience during the Advanced Aerospace Technologies Exploration Experience (AATEE) beginning May 31 2026 and ending June 12 2026. Counselors help foster a positive and engaging environment for campers and serve as a key connection point between students camp faculty and staff. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills attention to detail and the ability to engage positively with youth and colleagues alike. Camp Counselors are required to reside in the dorms for the full duration of the camp. All selected candidates must successfully complete a background check on or before their first day of employment.
Per the State of Kansas student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceedmaximum appointment and hours worked levels. However concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).

Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
- Supervise rising high school seniors during their evenings and weekends of camp activities when they are not in class. Responsibilities include but are not limited to ensuring the safety and well-being of campers at all times monitoring behavior enforcing camp policies occasionally escorting campers to their classroom managing student behavior and safety on official off-campus activities and taking attendance multiple times per day as campers at the beginning of the day on off-campus excursions when transitioning to evening activities and at lights-out.
- Facilitate group activities. Plan and execute group games activities snack distribution and other diversions to keep the campers active and engaged during the evening and weekends of the camp when they are not in class.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Positions may provide temporary assistance in a variety of operational areas to support overall camp functions.

- Current First Aid and CPR certification as indicated in application materials.
- Experience supervising minors in educational and/or recreational settings as indicated in application materials.
- Current student in the School of Engineering or Education.
