Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) for our Village Care Center

LPN or RN

Full-Time Exempt

Monday -Friday with on-call rotation

Occasional Evening/Night/Weekend Shift

JOB SUMMARY

Accountable for the overal1 operation of the nursing Unit. Serves as an advocate for unit residents and associates taking initiative to identify needed organizational development and change. Establishes and supports unit standards for budget of staff and equipment. Assures coordination of other departmental functions within the VCC and JKV. Serves on appropriate VCC and JKV committees. Responsible for appropriate staffing and establishing and managing a positive work environment. Assures adherence to standards for clinical care and competency. Assures unit compliance with local state and federal regulations. Assures compliance with nursing systems polices procedures and standards. Participates in new program development. Supportive of Village mission and values.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Implements all personnel functions affecting the unit.
  • Develops and supports lines of communication within the nursing department VCC and JKV.
  • Establishes policies procedures and objectives for department.
  • Report issues and concerns to Director of Nursing and Administrator.
  • Counsels department associates as needed. Initiates developmental actions to assist the associate in their ability to perform. Recommends to HR the termination of associates when necessary documenting and coronating actions with HR.
  • Monitors departmental safety practices to maintain compliance with established Village policies and procedures as well as local state and federal laws and regulations (e.g. OSHA)
  • Supervises and coordinates nursing activities at VCC.
  • Assigns duties and coordinates nursing services.
  • Attends care plans PRN
  • Evaluates and audits nursing activities to ensure patient care.
  • Observes nursing care and visits patients to ensure that care is carried out.
  • Assures that medical records are completed correctly.
  • Investigates and resolves resident/family complaints.
  • Participates in performance improvement plan/CQI.
  • Establishes policies procedures and objectives for department as well as participates and/or chairs assigned committees.
  • Maintains competency by working 1 floor shift per month minimum.
  • May assist with Staffing as needed.
  • May assume nursing administrative responsibility in absence of the Director of Nursing.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.

The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to perform all assigned responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • This job requires a combination of education training and experience that is acquired through the completion of a degree from an accredited School of Nursing.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of Missouri is required or hold a multi-state license from any other nurse licensure compact state that allows you to practice in the state of Missouri.

Knowledge and Skills (required unless otherwise noted):

  • Must be able to organize own work.
  • Must demonstrate positive communication skills verbal and written.
  • Must demonstrative proactive leadership and team-building skills.
  • Advanced keyboarding skills.
  • Intermediate level experience in Microsoft Windows Word and Excel and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Other essential abilities include precision problem solving persuasiveness creativity handling people initiative alertness analytical ability good judgement and patience.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience plus a minimum of 2 years management experience in an acute or long-term care setting total 5 years of experience.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work is primarily done in an environmentally controlled nursing care facility with occasional exposure to body fluids needles and chemicals.
  • Personal protective equipment is available and required.
  • All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.

Reports to the Director of Nursing.

This position directly supervises nursing personnel assigned to unit (full time part-time and PRN associates).
