The Coatings Engineer is responsible for the selection development application testing and performance evaluation of protective and functional coating systems for products or components. Roles and Responsibilities
Develop evaluate and optimize coating systems for performance durability and cost-effectiveness using HVOF thermal spray and similar technologies
Investigate coating failures including adhesion issues corrosion blistering cracking peeling and environmental degradation
Work closely with manufacturing quality supply chain and global engineering teams to implement coating processes and resolve production issues
Provide technical support for internal teams customers and vendors regarding coating application and performance
Prepare technical reports test plans qualification documents and engineering recommendations
Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to coating quality application efficiency and lifecycle performance
Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.
Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.
Required Qualifications
Advanced expertise in engineering technology and repair development with knowledge equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma with substantial relevant experience).
510 years of relevant experience in HVOF thermal spray or related surface engineering technologies.
Strong understanding of Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
Demonstrated experience in root cause analysis and the implementation of effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Desired Characteristics
