The NZ Police Cyber Security Centre is looking for two Cyber Security Specialists to provide technical leadership in designing assessing and strengthening enterprise security controls across complex and missioncritical environments.
It is an opportunity to contribute to the future of Police technology to ensure the services we deliver to the frontline and the public are safe reliable and can be trusted with their information.
These roles reside within the Cyber Security Engineering team which provides the technical foundation for the organisations cyber security capability by shaping how security controls are designed implemented tested and governed across enterprise platforms applications and infrastructure.
These roles focus on engineering security into complex environments. You will work closely with technical product owners and other ICT and Police staff to ensure security controls are robust maintainable and aligned to architectural and risk objectives.
You will be expected to take a broad strategic view of the environment understand how systems interact and drive tangible improvements to the organisations security posture through strong design clear standards and wellreasoned technical advice.
Key Accountabilities:
- Perform indepth security assessments of applications platforms and hardware identifying systemic weaknesses and architectural risks
- Design and advise on technical security controls across the enterprise applying layered and resilient security architectures
- Develop review and maintain cyber security standards patterns and technical guidance to support consistent and sustainable implementation
- Provide input into vulnerability management activities including analysis prioritisation and longterm remediation strategies
- Partner with architects engineers and delivery teams to embed security requirements into system design and technology decisions
- Collaborate with Cyber Security Operations and Services teams to ensure controls are practical testable and aligned across the cyber function
- Contribute to the evolution of the organisations security architecture by identifying gaps technical debt and opportunities for improvement
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to stakeholders translating security risk into clear engineering and design outcomes

- A strong foundation in computer science with deep technical understanding in areas such as operating systems networking application layers and system internals
- Experience applying security principles to complex realworld environments
- Strong knowledge of security architecture and design patterns and the ability to apply them pragmatically across diverse technologies
- Experience in senior or specialist cyber security roles with accountability for design assurance or technical decisionmaking
- The ability to understand complex legacy and modern environments and progressively uplift them to meet current and future security needs
- Strong analytical skills with the judgement to balance security risk operational impact and delivery outcomes
- Confidence engaging with senior technical stakeholders influencing decisions through clear evidencebased advice
- A collaborative mindset with a focus on building sustainable security capability across the organisation

To be eligible for this role you may be asked to obtain and maintain a Top SECRET national security clearance.
The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:
NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years or:
- A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years or
- A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia Canada United Kingdom or United States of America and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.
