Under the umbrella of SAP Run SAP the Corporate Processes & Information Technology (CPIT) organization brings SAPs business transformation to life by successfully implementing and running SAPs own standard software portfolio. CPIT functions as a role model for the intelligent sustainable enterprise performing at the core of the SAP value chain influencing product strategyanddevelopment while delivering customer-centric products and solutions at a shorter time-to-market for business success. The SW Asset Management organization (SAM) focus on managing the E2E process lifecycle of 3rd Party Software Licensing globally.

The Role:

SAP Software Asset Management (SAM) Solution Development

  • Lead the technical strategy and implementation of SAP Software Asset Management solutions across the enterprise
  • Design and develop custom Fiori/UI5 applications for license management compliance dashboards and software inventory visualization
  • Advance knowledge about the BTP Sub-account management and its technical integrations
  • Practical experience building AI-uses using BTP AI CORE and other AI features in BTP
  • Architect data models and analytics solutions for tracking software usage license entitlements and compliance metrics using SAP SAC SAP HANA and SAP FIORI
  • Develop integration solutions connecting SAP SAM with discovery tools like FlexNet Agent BMC Tanium CMDB procurement systems and ITSM platforms
  • Lead SAM data quality initiatives including normalization reconciliation and master data governance
  • Collaborate with SAM managers license analysts and procurement teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions

Application Architecture & Design

  • Design comprehensive scalable architectures for SAM solutions leveraging SAP BTP HANA and modern development frameworks
  • Design microservices-based solutions using CAP Model for modular SAM functionality (discovery normalization compliance reporting)
  • Develop best practices for using AI tools like Claude-code in connection with SAP compliance standards
  • Establish API-first design principles with well-defined contracts for SAM data consumption
  • Architect real-time and batch data processing pipelines for software inventory updates and license position calculations
  • Define security architectures including role-based access controls data encryption and audit logging for sensitive license data
  • Design performance-optimized data models handling millions of software installation records and usage transactions
  • Create reusable component libraries and design patterns specific to SAM domain (license calculators compliance widgets approval flows)
  • Document architectural decisions system landscapes and data flow diagrams using industry-standard notations

Development Practices & Standards

  • Establish SAM-specific development guidelines for license calculation accuracy data handling and audit compliance
  • Implement rigorous code review processes with quality gates focused on business logic correctness and performance
  • Design testing strategies including unit tests integration tests and business scenario validation for SAM calculations
  • Create CI/CD pipelines automating build test and deployment processes across SAP BTP and on-premise environments
  • Define version control strategies and branching models for SAM applications and configurations
  • Establish performance benchmarks for data processing report generation and user interface responsiveness
  • Implement DevSecOps practices with security scanning vulnerability assessment and compliance validation
  • Create comprehensive documentation standards including technical specifications API documentation and operations runbooks
  • Define data governance policies for SAM master data reference data and transactional data quality
  • Champion Agile development methodologies tailored to SAM project lifecycles and stakeholder engagement
  • Establish monitoring and logging standards for production SAM applications
  • Drive technical debt management and continuous refactoring initiatives
  • Implement automated testing frameworks (QUnit Jest OPA5) for Fiori/UI5 components

Technical Leadership & Hands-On Development

  • Lead hands-on development of sophisticated Fiori/UI5 applications with advanced features (custom controls responsive layouts state management)
  • Write optimized SQL queries for large-scale software inventory analysis usage trending and cost attribution
  • Create OData services exposing SAM data with proper filtering pagination and aggregation capabilities
  • Build scheduled batch jobs for data synchronization license calculations and compliance reporting
  • Design and implement RESTful APIs for SAM data consumption by external systems
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues spanning multiple technology layers and systems
  • Conduct proof-of-concepts for emerging SAP technologies applicable to SAM use cases
  • Optimize application and database performance through profiling tuning and architectural improvements

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead mentor and develop a team of 5-10 SAP developers specializing in SAM and enterprise applications
  • Build team competency in both SAP technologies (Fiori CAP HANA) and SAM domain knowledge (licensing compliance optimization)
  • Assign work strategically based on individual strengths growth opportunities and project priorities
  • Foster a collaborative high-performance culture emphasizing quality innovation and continuous improvement
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing through tech talks code reviews and documentation initiatives
  • Recruit interview and onboard new team members with appropriate technical and domain skills
  • Remove obstacles and provide technical guidance to unblock team progress
  • Lead Agile ceremonies including sprint planning daily standups retrospectives and demos
  • Promote cross-training to build resilient team capabilities across SAM and SAP technology stack

Stakeholder & Project Management

  • Partner with SAM managers license analysts procurement legal and finance teams to understand business requirements
  • Translate complex SAM business needs into clear technical specifications and implementation roadmaps
  • Provide accurate effort estimates resource plans and risk assessments for SAM initiatives
  • Manage multiple concurrent SAM projects while maintaining quality standards and delivery timelines
  • Communicate technical concepts solution capabilities and constraints to non-technical stakeholders
  • Present architecture designs project status and business value to executive leadership
  • Facilitate workshops and requirements gathering sessions with business stakeholders

What you bring:

The Application Development Lead for the SAM Tools & Data Management team is accountable for the end to end delivery of business critical applications that enable Software Asset Management processes across SAP. The role leads and coaches a cross functional development team owns application architecture and code quality and ensures features are delivered reliably against agreed priorities and business outcomes. Working closely with SAM business units and SAP platform teams the Application Development Lead translates requirements into scalable maintainable solutions drives modern development practices manages technical debt and ensures applications are production ready while leveraging standardized CI/CD and platform capabilities provided by DevOps.

Role Requirements:

  • Bachelors or masters degree in Computer Science Information Technology Software Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • SAP certifications in one or more areas: Fiori SAPUI5 HANA BTP or Development Associate (strongly preferred)
  • SAP Software Asset Management certification or equivalent formal SAM training/knowledge (highly preferred)
  • Additional certifications valued: CSAM (Certified Software Asset Manager) IAITAM ITIL Foundation
  • Agile/Scrum certifications (CSM PSM SAFe) are beneficial

Technical Expertise

  • 6 yearsof professional SAP application development experience
  • 4 yearsdeveloping SAP Fiori and SAPUI5 applications with advanced JavaScript/TypeScript proficiency
  • 3 yearsworking with SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP/CAPM) and
  • 5 yearswith SAP HANA database including CDS views calculation views SQLScript and stored procedures
  • 6 yearsof advanced SQL development with proven query optimization and performance tuning skills
  • Strong proficiency in modern web technologies: HTML5 CSS3 responsive design and JavaScript frameworks
  • Experience with OData protocol (v2 and v4) RESTful API design and service composition
  • Knowledge of SAP BTP services including Cloud Foundry SAP HANA Cloud and destination services
  • Familiarity with SAP Gateway SEGW and backend ABAP integration
  • Experience with integration middleware and ETL processes

Architecture & Design Skills

  • 4 yearsin application architecture and technical design roles
