Job Summary

Description

TRUs School of Education is seeking one sessional faculty to teach EDTE 3190 Philosophy of Education on Thursdays and Fridays from 12:30 pm to 3:50 pm from May 25 to June 26 2026.

Course Description: Students are introduced to a comparative and critical study of the philosophical frameworks related to education and schooling (realism pragmatism behaviourism existentialism) and their representative thinkers. This course is designed to help students examine the diverse educational views that have affected and are affecting schooling in Canada and British Columbia. Participants reflect on their developing educational philosophy through readings discussions and lectures.



Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Education is required
  • A Master of Education is required
  • Recent successful experience as a K-12 teacher strongly preferred and three years successful full time classroom experience is required
  • Advanced knowledge of the subject area is required
  • Experience and excellent understanding of child development and how this relates to elementary or secondary schools is required
  • Previous successful post-secondary school teaching experience is preferred
  • Excellent organizational interpersonal and communication skills is required
  • Proven skills in building intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect are required
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Aboriginal knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) is required
  • Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) is required
  • Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA10) is required
