This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and friendly person to join Ipswich School as an Estates Assistant (Live in) and ensure the smooth running and safety of the School across all its sites in the evenings and at weekends.
As the successful candidate you must be a self-starter and organised capable of working on your own initiative and making decisions independently when the Estates Manager is off-site.
Live-in accommodation is provided on the main Henley Road site to support the effective undertaking of this role.
The role is varied and interesting and is crucial to the smooth running of the School.

We have a variety of buildings across a number of sites:
- Senior School (Henley Road).
- Upper Prep School (Ivry Street).
- Lower Prep School (Anglesea Road).
- Westwood Boarding House (Constitution Hill).
- Anglesea Heights Boarding (Ivry Street).
- Notcutt Sports Fields (off The Grove Henley Road).
- Ipswich School Sports Centre (ISSC) (Rushmere St Andrew).
- The Lodge Day Nursery (Ivry Street).
The Estates Team at Ipswich School
The School benefits from a dedicated team of Estates staff who work to maintain and continually improve the Schools buildings and grounds. The Estates team comprises; a grounds team who maintain the Schools gardens and sports pitches; a dedicated Estates Facilities and Maintenance team who carry out general repairs and work with contractors to complete building projects (and who work to support staff and pupils throughout the year); and a large cleaning team.
Key Responsibilities
Out of Hours and Events
- Act as the main point of contact for the site outside school hours.
- Support evening and weekend events ensuring a professional and welcoming environment.
- Prepare spaces for use (set up equipment marshal parking clean and reset areas).
Maintenance and General Duties
- Respond to emergencies (e.g. fire/intruder alarms) and coordinate support where needed.
- Carry out basic maintenance and compliance checks (training provided).
- Assist with general upkeep and cleanliness across the estate.
- Troubleshoot minor issues with heating water and electrics.
Security
- Act as a keyholder and liaise with emergency services.
- Ensure buildings and grounds are secure (locking/unlocking as required).
About You
- Practical with good basic DIY skills.
- Experience of site security and handling emergencies.
- Able to work independently manage workload and meet deadlines.
- Confident using Google tools (Drive Docs Sheets Gmail).
- Willing to learn and undertake training.
- Good understanding of health & safety practices.
- Friendly reliable and a strong team player.
- Physically able to carry out manual tasks.
- Full clean driving licence.
- Committed to safeguarding and child protection.
