Overview
Our client is a leading renewable energy and power generation company seeking an experienced Plant Systems & Regulatory SCADA Engineer to provide technical leadership and ensure compliance for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) plant controllers. This is a critical contract role requiring deep expertise in North American bulk electric system operations and ISO market structures.
The successful candidate will guide a control system engineering team ensuring regulatory compliance and optimizing participation in ancillary services markets across multiple ISO territories. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge energy storage technology at the forefront of the clean energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance on regulatory compliance for BESS plant controllers operating in ISO markets including CAISO ERCOT MISO PJM SPP and NYISO
- Develop and maintain technical standards for plant control systems to meet NERC FERC and regional ISO requirements
- Lead the design and implementation of SCADA systems for utility-scale battery storage projects
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including grid operations market operations and project development
- Conduct technical reviews of control system designs and implementation plans
- Develop testing protocols and validation procedures for plant controller compliance
- Provide mentorship and technical direction to junior engineers and team members
- Stay current with evolving market rules and regulatory changes across ISO territories
- Support commissioning activities and provide technical troubleshooting expertise
Requirements
- 10 years of progressive engineering experience in power systems or plant controls
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering or related field (Masters preferred)
- Expert knowledge of North American bulk electric system operations and ISO market structures
- Deep understanding of NERC FERC and regional ISO compliance requirements
- Hands-on experience with BESS plant controllers SCADA systems and industrial control systems
- Proven experience with at least three of the following ISOs: CAISO ERCOT MISO PJM SPP NYISO
- Strong background in control system design implementation and testing
- Experience with communication protocols (DNP3 Modbus IEC 61850)
- Excellent technical leadership and mentorship capabilities
- Valid drivers license with clean driving record (required for position duties)
- Ability to work on-site in Juno Beach FL for the duration of the contract
