Our client is a leading renewable energy and power generation company seeking an experienced Plant Systems & Regulatory SCADA Engineer to provide technical leadership and ensure compliance for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) plant controllers. This is a critical contract role requiring deep expertise in North American bulk electric system operations and ISO market structures.
The successful candidate will guide a control system engineering team ensuring regulatory compliance and optimizing participation in ancillary services markets across multiple ISO territories. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge energy storage technology at the forefront of the clean energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical guidance on regulatory compliance for BESS plant controllers operating in ISO markets including CAISO ERCOT MISO PJM SPP and NYISO
Develop and maintain technical standards for plant control systems to meet NERC FERC and regional ISO requirements
Lead the design and implementation of SCADA systems for utility-scale battery storage projects
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including grid operations market operations and project development
Conduct technical reviews of control system designs and implementation plans
Develop testing protocols and validation procedures for plant controller compliance
Provide mentorship and technical direction to junior engineers and team members
Stay current with evolving market rules and regulatory changes across ISO territories
Support commissioning activities and provide technical troubleshooting expertise
Requirements
10 years of progressive engineering experience in power systems or plant controls
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering or related field (Masters preferred)
Expert knowledge of North American bulk electric system operations and ISO market structures
Deep understanding of NERC FERC and regional ISO compliance requirements
Hands-on experience with BESS plant controllers SCADA systems and industrial control systems
Proven experience with at least three of the following ISOs: CAISO ERCOT MISO PJM SPP NYISO
Strong background in control system design implementation and testing
Experience with communication protocols (DNP3 Modbus IEC 61850)
Excellent technical leadership and mentorship capabilities
Valid drivers license with clean driving record (required for position duties)
Ability to work on-site in Juno Beach FL for the duration of the contract
