Idaho Paraprofessional Testing Alternative dates are offered throughout the year for West Ada Paraprofessionals. If you do not meet the college credit/degree requirement or have not yet passed the Praxis you will be signed up for the Idaho Paraprofessional Assessment upon hire. The test must be passed within90 daysof your start date.

PURPOSE
Assists special education teacher with students in the Resource Room Extended Resource Room Positive Behavior Intervention Program Early Childhood Special Education Program or Tuition Kindergarten program; performs related work asrequired.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary function of an employee in this class is to provide assistance to specialeducation teachers in the Resource Room (RR) Extended Resource Room (ERR) Positive Behavior Intervention Program (PBI) Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) program or Tuition Kindergarten (T-K) program assisting in the implementation of students Individual Education Plans (IEPs). The Paraprofessional works with students with a variety of mild to severe physical emotional and learning disabilities and may work with an individual student or groups of students both in a separate classroom facility orfacilitatinginclusion into a regular classroom. The position is directly supervised by the assigned Special Education Teacher with overall supervision by the building Principal. The primary duties of the position are performed in a classroom environment and may include exposure to body fluids and some personal injury risk from student behaviors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Provides assistance tospecial education teachers in the special educationprogram;
- Assiststeachers in implementing students Individual Education Plans (IEPs);
- Assiststeachers by preparing lesson plans and preparingmodifying and adapting materials and presentations used in theclassroom;
- Assiststeachers in administering diagnostic skills and leveltesting;
- Assistsstudents with classroom and homework assignments tutoring or other supplementalinstruction;
- Assistsstudents with socialization personal hygienemedicationsand physical therapy nutritional and related personal tasks asneeded;
- Assistsstudents individually and/or in a group situation both in a separate classroom learning facility or byfacilitatinginclusion into regularclassrooms;
- Assistsregular classroom teachers by preparingmodifying and adapting classroom presentations and materials to assignedstudents;
- Assiststeachers with classroom activities classroom management lesson plans grading papers clerical and record-keeping duties creating and updating reports and files and other documentation asdirected;
- Performs substitute teacher duties in the absence of theteacher;
- Assiststeachers with clerical duties including but not limited to copying inputting records and data into a computer faxing text and document preparation and relatedduties;
- Assistsinmaintainingthe classroom in a clean neat and orderly status prepares bulletin boards and displays andmaintainsclassroom supplylevels;
- Assistswith student supervision on field trips and related extracurricularactivities;
- Performs school grounds bus noon and other monitoring and safety duties as assigned
- Participates inappropriate training workshop and in-serviceprograms;
- Performs other related duties asrequired;
- Performs all work duties and activitiesin accordance withDistrict policiesproceduresand safety practices
KNOWLEDGESKILLSAND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- Basic educational procedures andobjectives including classroom instruction and presentation preparation of teaching materials and aids behavior management andmodification testing and grading tutoring and student-teacher relations andinteractions;
- Basic special education methods and procedures for dealing with students with mild to severe physical emotional and/or learningdisabilities;
- Operation of classroom instructionalequipment;
- Operation of standard officeequipment;
- Operation of a personal computer and job-related software.
Ability to:

- Prepare and provide basic classroom services for special needs students including but not limited to instruction tutoring student evaluation lesson plans curriculum implementation materials preparation and classroommanagement;

- Perform multiple tasks simultaneously including handling interruptions andreturnto andcompletetasksin a timelymanner;
- Prepare andmaintainrequired records files reports logs statistics anddocumentation;
- Operate classroom instructionalequipment;
- Perform basic office tasks including keyboarding copying andfiling;
- Perform time management and scheduling functions meet deadlines and set taskpriorities;
- Establish andmaintaineffective working relationships with students teachers and staff members and other Districtpersonnel;
- Communicate effectively both orally and inwriting;
- Maintain student school and parentalconfidentiality;
- Demonstrate integrityingenuityand inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED equivalentrequired; college or other advanced education or training is preferred; and
- Classroom or other instructional experience is preferred; and
- Experience with special needs children is preferred; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training providing knowledge and abilities to perform the work.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing with or without reasonable accommodation whichpermitsthe employee to discern verbal instructions communicate effectively in person and to hear sounds within the normal range ofconversation;
