TheAssociateTransmission Planning Analysis Engineer willbe responsible forassistingstudies in connection with the 34.5 kV 69 kV 138 kV 230 kV and 345 kV transmission system to ensurethe operationalreliability adequacy and security based on FERC 715. This work includes analysis of and studies for power flowdynamic-stabilitytransient-stability andvoltage-stability.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assistthe annual NERC TPL-001 Transmission System Planning Performance Assessment using steady-state short-circuit anddynamicspower systems techniquesutilizinga software suite of TARA PSSE ASPEN and DSA Tools as governed by FERC 715.
  • Assistwith documentation forthe assessment required by NERC EOP-005 System Restoration fromBlackstartResources using transient power systems techniques utilizing PSCAD.
  • Assistwith documentation forthe annual NERC CIP-014 Physical Security assessment modeling realistic and historical physical attacks on transmission equipment todetermineif said physical attack could result in instability uncontrolled separation or Cascading within an electrical Interconnectionutilizinga software suite of TARA PSSE and DSA Tools.
  • As requestedassist with orperformNERC FAC-002 qualified changes and material modification impact studies to determine if any new or materially modified load any new or materially modified generation or any new or materially modified transmission results in an inability of the Transmission System to meet the performance requirements of FERC 715 using as applicable steady-state short-circuit dynamic and transientpower systems techniques utilizing a software suite of TARA PSSE ASPEN DSA Tools and PSCAD as governed by FERC 715.
  • Assistwith theevaluationofthe optimization of the Transmission System and proposed Transmission plans to reduce overall investment driving downward pressure on electric ratesutilizingtraditional and all new relevant and upcoming technologies such as GETs.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings of Plan projects within and Evaluate MISOs regional Transmission Planning process the MISO Expansion Transmission Plan (MTEP) to ensure effective efficient and thorough evaluation of Transmission Projects ensuring just and reasonable Transmission scope using steady-state short-circuit and dynamics powersystems techniques utilizing a software suite of TARA PSSE ASPEN and DSA Tools as governed by FERC 715.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings ofassist with theplanning ofprojects within and evaluate MISOs Expedited Project Review (EPR) and Expediate Resource Adequacy Study (ERAS) to ensure effective efficient and thorough evaluation of Transmission Projects ensuring just and reasonable Transmission scope using steady-state short-circuit dynamics and transientpower systems techniques utilizing a software suite of TARA PSSE ASPEN DSA Toolsand PSCADas governed by FERC 715.
  • Collaborate amongst Indianas five vertically integrated Investor-Owned Utilities and two Generation & Transmission Cooperatives toestablisha cost-effective forecasted Transmission Plan that reliably serves existing and new Indiana customers.
  • Prepare for and defend against regulatory audits of entities including but not limited to NERC IURC FERC and MISO for adherence to Transmission Tariffs Distribution Tariff and NERC compliance.
  • Provide the Transmission Operations Control Centerassistancein times of emergency such as extreme weather events emergency repairs or system restoration to ensurea timelyreturn to energization of AES Indianas customers.
  • Assist with the document of thetasksassociatedwithNERC standards including but not limited to TPL-007 TPL-008FAC-003 FAC-010 FAC-011FAC-014 PRC-012 and PRC-026using steady-state short-circuit and dynamics power systems techniques utilizing a software suite of TARA PSSE ASPEN DSA Tools and PSCADas needed.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering electrical engineering or similar.

Highly Desired Skills:

  • Bachelors degreecertificateorequivalent experiencein power systems studies
  • Passing Grade on Fundamentals of Engineering
  • Proficiencyin report writing analysis and compliance procedures.
  • Detailed understanding of regulatory frameworks (NERC FERC PJM/MISO).
  • The ability to communicate complex ideas verbally and in writing.
  • Proven technical knowledge and understanding of Transmission grid
  • Proficiencywith PSSE TARADSA Tools or similar software
  • Proficiencywith ASPEN CAPE or similar software
  • Proficiencywith PSCAD or similar software
