Position Summary:
The Environmental Sustainability Coordinator will work with all members of our community (teachers students facilities staff administrative staff leadership parents and board) to reduce our environmental footprint and help to foster a healthy sustainable community. This post-holder will execute theEnvironmental Sustainability Strategic Action Plan. They will consistently collaborate and communicate with all community stakeholders and will work across both the educational and the business/operational sides of the school with additional opportunities that may fall outside of both of these general categories.
This position comes with a $6000 annual stipend and a time release.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
In addition to meeting the expectations of all teachers at Mulgrave the ES Coordinator also leads the ES role by:
- Oversee the senior school Environmental Sustainability Council
- Oversee variousstudent environmental clubs across the school which support students in engaging their peers to build passion and commitment toward sustainability initiatives
- Collaborate with teachers to develop curriculum activities and resources for environmental education
- Provide off campus opportunities for further environmental engagement - either through classes clubs or one-off experiences
- Collaborate with principals and IB Program coordinators to ensure a continuum of ES learning is threaded throughout our divisions and grades (PK3-12)
- Collaborate with Head of Global Engagement and Service Learning to further embed environmental stewardship into student programming and leverage existing efforts
- Collaborate with OE team to further embed aspects of environmental awareness and education into program offerings
Organisation: Business Sustainability Leadership
- Execute the Environmental Sustainability Strategic Action Plan
- Collaborate with facilities and Mike Lopez including assisting with waste management & sorting
- Investigate opportunities for enhanced operational practices that will reduce consumption and waste
- Look at purchases of high use items like paper cleaning supplies etc. from a sustainability lens
- Collaborate with the events department to implement sustainability measures within our event offerings
- Assess organisational policies and procedures to make recommendations on embedding sustainability as a practice
- Collaborate with outside service providers (such as Dana & Cambridge Uniforms) to support a sustainable approach and work on solutions to reduce our collective footprint
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to develop branding/marketing of environmental sustainability share activities and create buzz
- Highlight sustainability on the website
- Collaborate on any new buildings being planned to ensure environmental sustainability components have been considered/implemented
- Sit on school committees as deemed necessary/of interest to environmental sustainability
- Educate and inspire staff members across the school - Faculty ProD
- Monitor and report on the schools sustainability performance
Community: Additional Sustainability Leadership
- Lead the Faculty Environment Working Group and support efforts to embed a sustainability mindset throughout our community
- Connect and collaborate with other schools to determine and implement best practices fostering relationships across the country and internationally
- Participate in the ISABC Environmental Sustainability group
- Pursue environmental accreditations/certifications for the school
- Engage local community groups to extend the reach of our efforts beyond our campus and our immediate community
