The Opportunity
Nuneaton is a town with a strong industrial and manufacturing backbone located at the heart of the Midlands engineering corridor. We are seeking a Chemistry Teacher who can ignite a passion for the molecular world and its vital role in modern society. This role involves teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 with potential for A-Level Chemistry delivery for the right candidate. You will be responsible for helping students master the central science linking laboratory experiments to global issues like sustainable materials pharmaceutical breakthroughs and green energy.
The Department
You will be based in a modern Science department with specialized Chemistry laboratories featuring advanced fume cupboards and bespoke workstations for practical enquiry.
The department is supported by a dedicated team of Science Technicians who ensure all chemical reagents glassware and specialized equipment are prepared to the highest safety standards.
We utilize a curriculum that emphasizes the macro micro and symbolic levels of Chemistry using digital modelling and molecular kits to help students visualize abstract concepts.
We maintain strong links with local industry and universities in the West Midlands providing students with opportunities for Chemistry at Work days and advanced laboratory workshops.
Core Responsibilities
Delivering high-impact practical-led lessons that build students confidence in handling equipment and conducting safe chemical reactions.
Teaching core Chemistry pillars including atomic structure the periodic table quantitative chemistry and organic synthesis.
Preparing Year 11 and Year 13 students for GCSE and A-Level examinations (AQA or OCR) focusing on the mastery of Required Practicals and the application of chemical theory to unfamiliar problems.
Enhancing students mathematical proficiency within a scientific context specifically in calculating moles concentrations and reaction yields.
Leading extracurricular initiatives such as Science Week demonstrations a school Alchemy Club or national Chemistry Olympiad entries.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a specialist who can make the invisible world of atoms and bonds tangible and exciting. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Chemistry Chemical Engineering or a related field.
A proven ability to deliver the Chemistry specification with rigor ensuring high standards of safety in accordance with CLEAPSS guidelines.
Strong subject knowledge across both inorganic and organic chemistry with the ability to explain complex mechanisms and bonding theories.
Excellent pedagogical skills particularly the use of live modelling and scaffolding to help students navigate the language of chemical equations.
