Who were looking for:

The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) 2 with the Microbiology Team at the University of Washington Medical Center Montlake.

CLT 2s in the Microbiology Laboratory are experienced specimen processors that provide excellent patient care by performing inventory ordering receiving and quality control on supplies.

Work schedule:

  • FTE 100%
  • Monday - Friday with rotating weekends and holidays
  • Midnight shift
  • Renton Location

What youll contribute:

  • Useshc1 to track and resolve problemsregardingspecimen quality including labelingstabilityand tube questions to AD Medical Laboratory Scientistor Setup Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead.
  • Monitorstrainingof new employees and students and assesses status at the completion of the training.
  • Performs or guides other qualified employees in doing direct observations for annual competency assessments.
  • Performs blood culture volumemonitoringquarterly andprepares the data to be sent to responsible areas.
  • Inventoriesreagents in setup.
  • Sets upqualitycontrol on mediaor forreagentswhen the CLT Lead is not available.
  • Trained in inventory andpurchasing when the CLT Lead is not available.
  • Ensures the procedures and documents inMedialab are up to minor edits to procedures. Reviews any major procedure changes. Keeps the printed backup for allmanualup to date.
  • Helps create the annual competency quizzes and any new procedure quizzes.
  • Be a resource for CLT 1s.

Also performs CLT 1 duties:

  • Possesses working knowledgeof the laboratory information system including accessioning test requests trackingspecimensand looking up results.
  • Batches and un-batches specimens from other divisions and transports them appropriately.
  • Operatesthe WASP to process approved specimens performs daily and monthly maintenance and troubleshoot errors.
  • Processes bacterial and fungal cultures for all specimen types
  • Prepares and stains direct smears including but not limited to Gram stains KOH prepsTrichromes and malaria preps.
  • Answersphone calls and directs questions toappropriate personnel.
  • Interacts with health care providers and responds to questions concerning specimens in a professional manner.
  • Trouble shoots specimenissues and enters cases in hc1.
  • Follows procedures andknowswhere to find information inMediaLab.
  • Collects and cleans glasswarecollects and disposes ofbiological waste and unpacks supplies and reagents.
  • Possess working knowledge of the operation maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment such as the biological safetycabinet centrifuges cytocentrifuges stomachers fume hoods incubators dry bathsrefrigeratorsand freezers.
  • Sets up bacterial susceptibility testing including disk diffusion gradientstripsand microtiter panels.
  • Communicates with co-workers so that specimen processing flows smoothly through breaks and between shifts.
  • Demonstratesa helpfulcourteousand respectful manner with co-workers.
  • Keeps work area cleanorganizedand stocked.

What youll need:

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of chemical clinical or public health laboratory experience.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements such as a license certification and/or registration.
