JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose

The Fleet Technician II performs a wider range of maintenance repairs and diagnostics on company vehicles and equipment ensuring their safe and efficient operation. This role requires a higher level of skill and experience than the Fleet Technician I with the ability to work more independently diagnose complex issues and perform more advanced repairs. The Technician II may also provide guidance and training to less experienced team members.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical electrical hydraulic and other system malfunctions on various types of vehicles and equipment.
• Use diagnostic equipment specialized tools and technical manuals to diagnose and repair vehicle and equipment problems accurately.
• Perform more advanced repairs and replacements of components including engines transmissions brakes suspension systems and electrical systems.
• Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and identify potential issues before they lead to breakdowns.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities repairs inspections and parts inventory.
• Follow safety procedures and protocols meticulously to ensure a safe working environment and comply with all relevant regulations (e.g. DOT OSHA).
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Assist with vehicle and equipment washing and detailing as needed.
• Provide guidance and training to Fleet Technician I staff on maintenance procedures equipment operation and safety protocols.
• May be responsible for coordinating with external vendors for specialized repairs or parts.

Skills

• Proficiency in using a wide range of hand and power tools diagnostic equipment (e.g. scan tools multimeters) and specialized tools.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose complex malfunctions accurately and efficiently.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to train and guide other team members.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks and maintaining records.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and industry best practices.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with fleet management software or maintenance tracking systems are beneficial.
• Valid drivers license (may be required depending on the role and company policy) potentially with endorsements for specific vehicle types (e.g. CDL).
