Job Summary
Overview
We are seeking a Maintenance Spare Parts Engineer to develop and manage a reliable cost-effective spare parts program that supports equipment uptime and reduces maintenance-related downtime. This role focuses on improving spare parts accuracy identifying critical components and aligning inventory strategies with asset criticality.
This position works closely with maintenance reliability and procurement teams to ensure the right parts are available at the right time supporting overall operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Stabilize Spare Parts (0-3 Months)
- Identify critical assets based on downtime impact and operational risk
- Develop initial spare parts lists for high-priority equipment
- Capture parts usage from work orders and link to asset records in CMMS/EAM systems
- Conduct field inspections to verify parts and gather missing information
- Reduce stockouts by prioritizing high-risk high-use and long lead-time items
Optimize Spare Parts Data (3-9 Months)
- Build and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for critical and rotating equipment (e.g. motors pumps gearboxes)
- Identify long lead-time components and support stocking decisions
- Standardize common spare parts across similar assets where possible
- Validate spare parts data with maintenance teams to capture operational knowledge
- Identify and manage obsolete redundant or superseded inventory
Sustain & Improve the Program (9-24 Months)
- Support implementation of a criticality-based inventory strategy including:
- Critical spares (always stocked)
- Operational spares (stocked based on usage)
- Non-critical spares (ordered as needed)
- Obsolete or legacy parts (special handling)
- Participate in regular reviews of spare parts usage accuracy and inventory levels
- Support development and maintenance of documentation standards for assets
Qualifications
- 7 years of experience in maintenance inventory management storeroom operations or industrial environments
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical spare parts
- Experience working with CMMS/EAM systems and work order processes
Required Skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to organize technical data
- Ability to work cross-functionally with maintenance reliability and procurement teams
- Comfortable working both in the field and with systems/data analysis
- Strong problem-solving and process improvement skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing or maintaining equipment Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Background in manufacturing processing utilities or heavy industry
- Understanding of spare parts criticality and lead-time risk
