Reporting to the Police Captain the Police Lieutenant is a commandstaff member of the leadership team. The Police Lieutenant will work inclose partnership with the Emergency Management Department and theMedical Campus Public Safety team to advance the Universitysintegratedsafety strategy. The Police Lieutenant will support thedaily operations and long-term vision of the police department. The mission at BUPD is to protectall members of the BU community through intentional engagementinclusive support and comprehensive preparedness promoting a saferesilientand thrivingenvironmentfor BUPD is a full-time professional law enforcement agency thatprovides a wide variety of safety and support services to the BUcommunity at the Charles River Fenway and Medical Campuses. BUPDemploys more than 50state-certified police officers and is certifiedby the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC).

Roles and Responsibilities

The Police Lieutenant is a member of the command staff primarilyresponsible for overseeing the operations of the evening shift. ThePolice Lieutenant will be expected to support the leadership team inall efforts to providea high levelof service and safety for thecommunity. The Police Lieutenant is expected to embrace a communitypolicing philosophy andparticipatein asubstantialand meaningfulcommunity engagement. The Police Lieutenant will support a focus onde-escalation as it relates to student activism and protests anddemonstrations.

Required Skills

Qualifications

3-5 years of progressively responsible supervision experience in policing is preferred.
Valid Massachusetts drivers license (or ability to obtain prior to hire).
The ability to obtain and maintain Police Officers Standards and Training (POST) certification within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
