Reporting to the Police Captain the Police Lieutenant is a commandstaff member of the leadership team. The Police Lieutenant will work inclose partnership with the Emergency Management Department and theMedical Campus Public Safety team to advance the Universitysintegratedsafety strategy. The Police Lieutenant will support thedaily operations and long-term vision of the police department. BUPDemploys more than 50state-certified police officers and is certifiedby the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC).
Roles and Responsibilities
The Police Lieutenant is a member of the command staff primarilyresponsible for overseeing the operations of the evening shift. ThePolice Lieutenant will be expected to support the leadership team inall efforts to providea high levelof service and safety for thecommunity. The Police Lieutenant is expected to embrace a communitypolicing philosophy andparticipatein asubstantialand meaningfulcommunity engagement. The Police Lieutenant will support a focus onde-escalation as it relates to student activism and protests anddemonstrations.

The successful candidate will be a proven law enforcement leader with operationalexpertise strategic vision and a record of fosteringcommunity partnerships. The Police Lieutenantis responsible foroperational leadership and mustdemonstratethe followingqualifications andcompetencies:

Required Skills
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of progressively responsible supervision experience in policing is preferred.
- Valid Massachusetts drivers license (or ability to obtain prior to hire).
- The ability to obtain and maintain Police Officers Standards and Training (POST) certification within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
