    GENERAL SUMMARY


    The MLE teacher will create an environment that fosters English language acquisition enhances academic progress and builds students self-esteem. Using the districts articulated curriculum for MLEstudents the teacher will provide positive learning experiences for all culturally and linguistically diverse students including providing each student with the knowledge skills values and attitudes to lead self-sufficient healthy productive socially responsible lives to the best of their individual potential. The teacher can establish good relationships and rapport with students parents and staff members. The teacher will document student progress set appropriate learning goals lesson plans plan activities and outcomes address specific educational needs of MLE students provide feedback to students parents and administration regarding student progress expectations and goals. The teacher will maintain files with required paperwork for each student within the program that document state/federal program requirements. The MLE teacher will provide services as assigned including initial assessments placement and evaluation of program eligible students. The teacher will support other classroom teachers with knowledge materials and appropriate instructional strategies to use with their MLE students. The teacher will provide opportunities for MLE parents to become involved in district/school events and advocate for multilingual learners and their parents. The teacher will maintain professional competence through in-service education coursework and professional growth activities.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1. Works with teachers to fully integrate language development strategies scaffolds differentiated instruction and WIDA framework in all aspects of classroom practice.
    2. Use sheltered instruction strategies to scaffold and differentiate instruction with the purpose of giving all MLE students at all levels of language proficiency access to core instruction.
    3. Disaggregates WIDA results and applies additional formative assessments to accurately determine and implement appropriate language development strategies for increasing MLE learners proficiency in speaking listening reading and writing within core instruction.
    4. Monitors students for the purpose of providing feedback to students parents and administration regarding student progress expectations and goals by using quality classroom-based assessment tools for the qualification and exiting of all MLE students.
    5. Establishes and maintains a standard of student behavior needed to provide an orderly safe and productive learning environment.
    6. Communicates positively and regularly with parent and/or legal guardians including areas of growth student progress and teacher expectations developing a meaningful collaboration between home and school.
    7. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    8. Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with staff administrators parents support groups and governmental and community service agencies.
    9. Collaborates with instructional assistants and volunteers for the purpose of providing an effective school program.
    10. Maintains appropriate confidential reports records and files in compliance with state/federal law.
    11. Demonstrates experience and sensitivity that affirms individuality and diversity.
    12. Attends and participates in all required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by the district and/or building principal in order to accomplish the objectives of the position including but not limited to on-going professional staff development Learning Improvement Days and Core Training.
    13. Educates special needs eligible students within the program and participates in multidisciplinary teams when appropriate.
    14. Reports incidents of child abuse altercations and substance abuse for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students providing a positive learning environment and adheres to the educational code of ethics and district/school policies.
    15. Organizes and supports state-required testing.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

    District/Building Administrators as appropriate.

    CONDITIONS

    May be required to deal with distraught students/parents/staff; may be exposed to infectious diseases.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education and Experience
    Bachelors degree with appropriate educational endorsement.
    ELL or Bilingual Ed endorsement.
    Minimum of two (2) years of previous secondary classroom teaching experience preferred.
    Must meet job specific highly qualified standards.

    Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
    Knowledge and skill in instructional principles methods techniques and methodology to assist MLEstudents to meet state graduation requirements.
    Knowledge of current state/ district assessments and graduation requirements.
    Knowledge and implementation of district adopted curricula using research based MLEmethodology.
    Commitment and ability to work with a full range of students.
    Skill in classroom management and student discipline and developing positive techniques for improving student behavior.
    Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    Ability to establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with a variety of students staff and community in a multicultural and diverse socio-economic setting. Ability to participate collaboratively in teams.
    Ability to continue participation in staff development to maintain professional skills. Ability to serve as a role model and treat students as individuals in a professional manner. Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
    Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    Skills in organizational techniques.
    Ability to effectively integrate technology resources into the curriculum.
    Advocate for MLEparents in accessing the districts schools and programs.
    Ability to accept extracurricular activities including summer school.
    Assist in establishing a welcome school community for MLEfamilies.
    Provide staff development opportunities for district staff concerning MLEstudents and effective teaching methods.

    Licenses/Special Requirements
    Must maintain all licenses and certifications as a condition of continued employment. Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement per OSPI. Completed Bethel Employment Application/ Background Check
