Position Description

Job Title: Physical Education Teacher

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Job Status: Part-Time

Reporting Functions: Reports to Principal

Job Function: To develop each students understanding of the relationship between good body function and exercise; to motivate each student to cultivate physical fitness hygienic habits and good social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of student in physical achievement; to develop strength skill agility poise and coordination in individual dual and team physical activities and sports in accordance with each students ability.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design and implement PE classes for Kindergarten to 8th Grade students that expose them to a variety of activities games and sports; emphasize activities that promote lifelong physical fitness and promote teamwork and good sportsmanship.

• Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness health education rhythm and dance and individual dual or team sports utilizing appropriate learning activities.

• Analyzes demonstrates and explains basic skills knowledge and strategies of formal sports game rhythms and fundamentals of body movement.

• Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils.

• Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property. Selects and requisitions uniforms equipment and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.

• Establishes and maintains standards of students behavior needed to provide an orderly productive environment in the physical education areas.

• Evaluates each students growth in physical skills knowledge and contribution in team sports.

• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by St. Jerome Regional School and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.

• Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Educational Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Physical Education or related field.

• PA Teacher certification in Health and Physical Education.

• Previous teaching experience preferred.

Other Requirements:

• Thorough understanding of the curricular elements of Physical Education and a general knowledge of Physical Education curriculum.

• Applicants should possess a love of Physical Education teaching and children as well as the desire to nurture and shape the lives of our students.

• Appreciation of the developmental and age characteristics of the students in each grade.

• Enthusiasm for the mission of the school and for working collaboratively with fellow faculty members.

PRIOR TO INTERVIEW: Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH) Pennsylvania Child Abuse History and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvanias Act 153 of 2014 (at least 1 year old.) As well as attendance at a Protecting Gods Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Physical Demands: Must be in good physical shape to do this job with the ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time. Must have the ability to walk reach with arms and hands climb and balance; some carrying pushing and/or pulling may be involved; as well as some stooping kneeling crouching or crawling; exhibit manual dexterity to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard and dial a phone; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions: Normal school environment; may have exposure to outside elements. Part-time; 12-14 hours per week; School hours are 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. May be required to work beyond normal school hours to attend various meetings school events and retreats.
