Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Area Supervisor the Team Lead is responsible for promoting a safe working environment while supporting and enforcing company policies and procedures. This role provides day-to-day leadership on the Powder Coat Line mentors and develops team members and ensures safety quality and production standards are consistently met.
The Team Lead position is a working role and requires hands-on participation in production activities when needed including filling in for operators and supporting troubleshooting efforts.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership Communication & Administration
- Prepare for and conduct Gemba meetings with the management team to review safety quality production results issues countermeasures and daily goals.
- Complete end-of-shift and shift tie-in reports to communicate performance challenges and solutions to incoming shifts.
- Attend and participate in all required company training programs and meetings.
- Ensure operators maintain accurate production and quality records.
- Serve as the first point of contact for team-related concerns and initial issue resolution.
Operational Efficiency & Continuous Improvement
- Enable and encourage team members to participate in or lead continuous improvement projects and events.
- Identify and drive waste reduction initiatives without compromising safety or product quality.
- Make real-time operational decisions to prevent excessive downtime and/or defects.
- Monitor throughput and staffing levels adjusting assignments to support optimal safety quality and efficiency.
Production Support & Work Assignment
- Assign and rotate team members across Powder Coat Line positions to safely meet production and quality requirements.
- Monitor process flow across pretreatment coating curing and handling stages.
- When assigned work centers are not running notify supervision and redeploy team members to other tasks or departments.
- Direct team members to clean organize and maintain equipment and work areas when no production work is available.
- Maintain working knowledge of Powder Coat Line processes to support coverage and troubleshooting as needed.
Quality Assurance
- Perform quality inspections and layered audits to ensure powder-coated products meet quality standards.
- Ensure standard work instructions job recipes and process parameters are documented and followed without unapproved deviations.
- Escalate suspect or non-conforming materials according to established escalation and containment procedures.
- Lead product tagging hold and containment activities to prevent out-of-spec material from reaching customers.
- Troubleshoot coating-related quality issues within scope of responsibility and engage additional resources when needed.
Training & Work Instructions
- Develop update and maintain standard work and job instructions for the Powder Coat Line.
- Train new and existing team members on standard work safety requirements and process expectations.
- Document training completion and submit training records to supervision and HR.
Safety Environmental & HR Compliance
- Commit to and demonstrate the facility Mission Vision and Values in alignment with AWI Operating Principles.
- Follow all company policies OSHA safety requirements and EPA environmental standards.
- Promote safe work behaviors and actively participate in safety programs audits and training.
- Complete incident near-miss and risk assessment documentation in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean organized and safe work environment.
- Communicate employee concerns performance issues and policy questions to supervision Operations and HR as appropriate.
Planning & Scheduling
- Monitor production schedules and verify availability of materials chemicals components and packaging for upcoming jobs.
- Ensure production schedules are met and staffing plans are adjusted accordingly.
- Must be willing and able to work split shifts and overtime as required.
Work Environment
Manufacturing environment with exposure to moving equipment elevated temperatures (ovens/curing) noise chemicals and industrial hazards. Required PPE includes safety glasses hearing protection gloves and safety footwear.
