Salary: $17.60 per hour


Job Summary:

Community Healthcaring Kitchener- Waterloo is excited to offer a Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) position for a Community Service Worker Summer Student to join our outreach team for the summer season. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a student interested in pursuing a career in social work or community services. You will work alongside experienced professionals providing support to individuals and families within the community assisting with program coordination and contributing to the overall well-being of those in need.

As a Community Services Worker Student you will gain hands-on experience in client support and community outreach all while making a meaningful impact on your local community. Community Healthcaring Kitchener-Waterloo is committed to offering a safe and supportive environment with strong supervision and mentorship for students.


Responsibilities:

  1. To assist Community Health Workers the Breastfeeding Buddies team and the Seniors Dental Program with the coordination and implementation of various in person community-based programs on site and within the community.
  2. Help establish relationships with community partners venues and vendors.
  3. To assist in the preparation and set up of group activities community kits and displays.
  4. To help coordinate and support volunteers at CHCKW at community events.
  5. To research and investigate potential community events and locations for program promotion and participation.
  6. Engage with community members to raise awareness of available services and help build connections with local organizations.
  7. Act as an ambassador for the health centre discussing programs and services and promoting healthy lifestyles.
  8. Maintain accurate client records prepare reports and document progress in accordance with privacy and confidentiality regulations.
  9. Data entry as needed.
  10. Assist and support the Outreach team as required.
  11. Other duties as may be assigned.


Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs program candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the start of the employment period.
  • Be a Canadian citizen permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada.
  • Enrolled in a post-secondary program (Social Work Community Services Psychology or a related field).
  • Passion for helping others and making a positive impact on the community.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of community resources and social services is an asset.
  • Previous volunteer or work experience in social services is an asset but not required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.


Additional Information:

  • This is a Canada Summer Jobs funded position specifically for students looking to gain work experience during the summer months.
  • The position is full-time for a duration of up to 16 weeks.
  • The role will provide mentorship strong supervision plan & hands-on experience and the opportunity to enhance skills in community work.
