Department Faculty is responsible for medical student education patient care service and research/scholarly activities.Job Description:
Education 35%
- Serves as Family Medicine Clerkship Assistant Director
- Assists with Family Medicine rural rotations sub-internships and electives
- Assists with development of new family medicine electives
- Teaches first and second year medical students through clinical didactics and small group methodologies
- Activities that support department teaching functions including but not limited to standardized patient monitoring academic detailing teaching clinical skills problem-based learning sessions lectures etc.
- Assists with residency lectures small group sessions and skills-based teaching
Medical- 40%
- 2-5 half-days per week patient care and/or residency teaching supervision including maternal health care
- Periodically supervise medical students at JayDoc Community Clinic
- Medical call with residency faculty including maternal health care deliveries and inpatient care
- Provide ambulatory inpatient care and/or obstetric care
Research/Scholarly Activity- 15%
- Develops own focus of scholarly activity including national and regional publications and presentations
- Assists with grants as appropriate
Service- 10%
- School campus and department committees as assigned or elected
- Assist with campus and schoolwide teaching and support (e.g. student advising Issues in Medicine Enrichment Weeks Introphase medical student admissions interviews etc.)
- Assist with administration of department activities (e.g. Family Medicine Interest Group and JayDoc Community Clinic etc.)
- Participate in faculty development activities including attendance and presentation at seminars
Work Environment:
Faculty member must be able to obtain hospital privileges.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD or DO or equivalent degree)
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements institutional standards of academic and professional excellence alignment with peer institution benchmarks and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Completion of residency Board Certification in Family Medicine or eligible for Board Certification
- Unrestricted Kansas license to practice medicine
- Federal narcotics number
Preferred Qualifications:
Work Experience:
- Experience teaching and supervising residents and medical students
- Demonstrated academic achievement
- Demonstrated scholarly activity
- Previous medical practice experience
