About The Role

We are seeking aLondonbased Senior Software Engineer ( / TypeScript)to build and operate backend services supporting payment checkout and transactional workflows. You will collaborate closely with Product Frontend Platform and Infrastructure teams to deliver secure scalable APIs in highthroughput environments.

This role sits at the core of Verifones payments and checkout platform where backend engineering directly impacts secure highvolume transactions used globally. Youll design and operate scalable productioncritical systems that must perform reliably under realworld load evolving payment methods and strict security requirements.

Required Skills and Experience Needed

Programming Languages

• TypeScript(version 3.x or higher)
• (version 16 or higher)

Backend Frameworks & Libraries

• Backend frameworks such or alternatives includingExpressFastify orNestJS
• Validation usingJoi
• Authentication and authorization usingJWTandOAuth2

Architecture & Design

• Strong grounding inClean ArchitectureandDomainDriven Design (DDD)
• Dependency Injection ()
• Repository and modular design patterns
• Experience building maintainable testable backend systems

APIs & Data

• Design and operation ofRESTful APIs
• API versioning and request validation
• Advanced filtering usingRSQLor equivalent
• Experience withMongoDB(modeling indexing performance tuning)
• Experience withRedisfor caching or messaging
• Database migrations and schema evolution

Cloud & Infrastructure

• Handson experience withAWSservices such as EC2 S3 Secrets Manager and CloudWatch
• DockerandDocker Compose
• Strong discipline withCI/CD pipelinesandGit workflows

Testing & Quality

• Automated testing usingJestorMocha/Chai/Sinon
• Endtoend testing withCypress(optional)
• Strong focus on code quality reliability and maintainability

Payments & Security

• Experience integrating payment providers such asStripePayPal orKlarna
• Knowledge of authorization capture and refund flows
• Experience with3D Secure
• Awareness ofPCIDSSrequirements and security best practices
• Understanding of checkout and transactional domain flows

Production Engineering

• Performance optimization and debugging in production systems
• Exposure to monitoring orAPM tools(e.g. AppDynamics or similar)
• Experience operating highavailability or faulttolerant systems
• Familiarity with fraudrelated considerations

Frontend & Platform Exposure

• Experience working alongside frontend frameworks such asAngularorReact
• Familiarity withRxJSand state management (NgRx or Redux)
