Job Summary
Under supervision performs fire suppression and emergency medical response duties to protect life and property. Provides basic life support care responds to emergencies and operates firefighting and rescue equipment in accordance with established policies procedures and medical protocols.
Responsibilities
- Respond to fire and emergency calls; perform fire suppression containment and extinguishment activities.
- Operate firefighting equipment lay hose lines and support fireground operations.
- Provide emergency medical care including basic life support patient assessment and treatment.
- Perform CPR wound care bleeding control splinting oxygen administration and other first aid procedures.
- Conduct victim extrication from accident scenes and hazardous environments.
- Maintain communication with dispatch hospitals and other emergency responders.
- Complete reports and documentation related to fire and medical incidents.
- Participate in hazardous materials incident response within training limits.
- Inspect clean maintain and restock equipment tools and supplies.
- Participate in training programs and continuing education.
- Conduct fire prevention programs and public education outreach.
- Perform pre-fire inspections and hydrant testing.
- Maintain fire stations vehicles and grounds.
- Operate emergency vehicles and fire apparatus as required.
- Assist with general office duties such as report preparation and recordkeeping.
- Interact with the public emergency personnel and other agencies professionally.
- Remain on duty for assigned shifts and respond to emergencies as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities (Paramedic)
- Provide advanced life support including cardiac monitoring IV therapy medication administration and airway management.
- Perform advanced procedures such as intubation defibrillation and ECG monitoring.
- Assist in supervising EMT personnel when required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Completion of fire and emergency medical service training programs.
- Must possess and maintain:
- Firefighter II Certification
- EMT Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Valid drivers license and EVOC certification required.
Additional (Paramedic):
- Paramedic Certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of fire suppression techniques emergency medical care and rescue operations.
- Understanding of fire codes safety regulations and emergency response procedures.
- Ability to make critical decisions in high-pressure and life-threatening situations.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to operate firefighting rescue and medical equipment safely.
- Skilled in first aid CPR and emergency medical procedures.
- Ability to recognize and respond to medical emergencies and trauma conditions.
- Ability to prepare reports and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to interact professionally with the public and other agencies.
- Ability to participate in training and continuous skill development.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting carrying pushing and pulling heavy objects (100 lbs in emergency situations).

- Ability to work in hazardous and high-stress environments including extreme heat and dangerous conditions.
