Summary
The Dean of Students will work in conjunction with other school administrators to ensure the academic educational and extra-curricular effectiveness of the school.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain an effective learning climate in the school.
- Establish guidelines for proper student conduct and maintain student discipline.
- Plan organize and direct implementation of specific school activities (as assigned).
- Establish and maintain favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs.
- Orient newly-assigned staff members and assist in their development as appropriate.
- Interpret Board policies and administrative directives.
- Discuss and resolve individual student instructional problems.
- Coordinate and supervise support services as assigned such as maintenance security food service recreational programs financial and accounting services.
- Assume leadership in the direction of the schools co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
- Prepare or supervise various reports records and/or lists as requested.
- Participate in administrative meetings as required and/or appropriate.
- Work with Central Office administration and staff with respect for school needs.
- Participate and/or conduct staff meetings as appropriate to keep members informed of changes programs and implementing professional development.
- Keep abreast of changes in the profession by attending necessary and appropriate meetings and trainings.
- Exert leadership as applicable in the development of programs for staff members.
- Provide proper supervision of pupils at all times.
- Evaluate classified staff members regarding their individual performance.
- Perform other duties as discussed and/or assigned by Principal.
- Develop and maintain effective public relations with the school community through various means.
Required Knowledge & Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Curriculum instruction and assessment.
- Record-keeping techniques.
- Operation of a computer terminal and data entry techniques.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Research methods and report writing techniques.
- Laws rules and regulations related to assigned activities.
- Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities.
- Interpersonal skills using tact patience and courtesy.
- Technical aspects of the field of specialty.
Ability to:
- To perform the responsibilities as previously outlined.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Maintain records and prepare reports.
- Operate a computer terminal.
- Prioritize and schedule work.
- Learn apply and explain policies procedures rule and regulations.
- Maintain current knowledge of program rules regulations requirements and restrictions.
- Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
- Work independently with little direction.
- Meet schedules and timelines.

- Requires a high level of physical endurance to meet the demands of extended workdays (coverage of building activities and extra-curricular activities etc.).
- Requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.

Licenses and Other Requirements
- Valid Kentucky Administrators Leadership Certification.
