Main Purpose of Job

Legal Unit Supervisor Position (current position):To promote family well-being and self-sufficiency through supervision of the Legal Unit within the Prince Georges County Office of Child Support. Supervises staff responsible for performing locate and enforcement functions; fact-finding and analysis in support to the Special Counsel for the agency and the preparation of appropriate legal documents. Motivates employees to achieve high performance in a positive workplace that fosters diversity innovation initiative open and honest communication and teamwork. Develops and implements local procedures to comply with Federal State and local laws policies and procedures. Conducts negotiation and courtroom etiquette training ensure all scheduled cases for court hearings are updated and completing and compiling hearing stats.

Nature of Work for Administrator I Supervisor:Encompasses administrative staff work related to the administration of departmental policy and overseeing or coordinating agency operations or functioning as a special assistant to an executive. Employees engaged in overseeing or coordinating agency operations are responsible for planning organizing implementing administering and supervising the interpretation and application of agency policies directives and procedures designed to accomplish the mission of the agency. Employees functioning as special assistants to departmental executives are responsible for program or project review development evaluation and coordination. Employees in this classification supervise professional and/or support staff.

POSITION DUTIES

EXAMPLES OF WORK:


When functioning as administrators overseeing or coordinating agency operations:

Plans organizes assigns reviews and approves the work of the professional and/or support staff;

Supervises professional and/or support staff;

Assists in the direction of the daily operations of a unit or division;

Evaluates efficiency of operations and develops revises and recommends new policies standards and workflow procedures using new technology where appropriate;

Interprets and applies or oversees the application of agency policies rules and regulations to accomplish the work of the unit or division;

Implements new regulations and policies as directed by upper management;

Sets goals and deadlines and oversees the workflow of the unit;

Coordinates workflow with administrators of other units in areas of work spanning multiple units;

Coordinates leave and staff coverage of unit or division;

Performs other related duties.

When functioning as special assistants to executives:

Plans organizes assigns reviews and approves the work of the professional and/or support staff;

Supervises professional and/or support staff;

Researches and compiles information as directed by the executive and may recommend innovative ideas or methods of doing business;

Reviews evaluates and assists in the development of agency policies and programs;

Promotes the work of the agency through frequent contact with interested groups and individuals;

Makes recommendations to upper management and executives concerning new or revised legislation affecting the agency;

Develops and recommends new standards methods of operation and new technology to accomplish the mission of the agency;

May work on sensitive and confidential projects requiring discretion and judgment in the release of information;

May act as the representative of the executive in meetings and conferences;

May act as a liaison between the executive and agency units;

May act as team leader for special projects;

Performs other related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Masters degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules regulations policy procedures and processes or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for- year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicantswho possess the following preferred qualification(s).Include clear and specific information on your application regardingyour qualifications.

  • One year of experience in a Child Support or Human Services Program.
  • One year of Supervisory experience.
  • One year of experience performing duties involving court proceedings or as a Paralegal/ Legal Assistant.
  • One year of experience with organizational systems such as Maryland Electronic Courts (MDEC) and the Child Support Management System (CSMS) or using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • One year of experience monitoring and evaluating compliance in various programs and/or providing program training for staff.
  • One year of experience communicating with internal and external customers or community partners or stakeholders.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.

Personal Leave- new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date).

Annual Leave ten (10) days of accumulated annual leave per year.

Sick Leave fifteen (15) days of accumulated sick leave per year.

Parental Leave up to sixty (60) days of paid parental leave upon the birth or adoption of a child.

Holidays State employees also celebrate at least twelve (12) holiday per year.
