Description of Work
This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Note: Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position in order to work in a temporary position. All temporary employees are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.

This temporary position is with NC Agriculture & Consumer Services - Marketing located at 1801 Yorkmont Road Charlotte NC Mecklenburg County.
Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $18.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).
The NC Agriculture - Charlotte Regional Farmers Market has a need for a full-time long-term temporary assignment for a Maintenance / Construction Technician I. The selected candidate will perform:
Maintenance and upkeep of the buildings and grounds includes carpentry heating cooling mowing pruning fertilizing and spraying
Maintenance of all Market equipment service records and minor repairs
Direct and assist with the custodial maintenance responsibilities including general housekeeping and trash removal
Provide general assistance with the operation of the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Effective July 1 2025 candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. The Knowledge Skills and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.
Basic to general knowledge of the principles and techniques of assigned trades. Basic knowledge of general maintenance and building repair. Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary to the work. Ability to read and interpret building codes. Ability to read blueprints. Ability to operate the more common types of shop or wood working equipment. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Physical strength sufficient to perform heavy physical tasks for extended periods of time.
Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience associated with a variety of mechanical or building trades; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I II III or Universal technician as required by Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations Part 82 Subpart F.
