Job Summary

The Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic Drama Teacher who can transform the classroom into a space of creative risk-taking and rigorous artistic study. This role involves teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 with potential for A-Level Drama and Theatre Studies delivery guiding students through the evolution of performance from classical Greek tragedy to contemporary verbatim theatre.


The Department

  • You will be based in a dedicated performing arts block featuring a professional-spec black box studio with programmable LED lighting and high-quality sound reinforcement.

  • The department benefits from a collaborative atmosphere where Drama is celebrated as a vital tool for building student confidence empathy and communication skills.

  • We have a strong tradition of school productions ranging from large-scale musicals to intimate student-led fringe performances.

  • The school maintains close links with the local Suffolk arts scene frequently hosting professional workshops and organizing trips to regional and London theatres to see live performance in practice.


Core Responsibilities

  1. Delivering high-energy lessons that balance practical performance skills with the theoretical study of influential practitioners such as Stanislavski Brecht and Artaud.

  2. Guiding GCSE and A-Level students through the Devising process helping them move from initial stimuli to polished original pieces of theatre.

  3. Teaching the technical aspects of theatre including lighting design soundscapes and set construction to ensure students understand the holistic nature of production.

  4. Preparing students for scripted performance examinations focusing on character motivation vocal agility and physical theatre techniques.

  5. Leading the schools extracurricular drama life by directing annual productions and fostering a vibrant Drama Club culture.


The Successful Candidate We are looking for a practitioner who is as comfortable behind the scenes as they are in the spotlight. Requirements include:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Drama Theatre Studies or a related Performing Arts discipline.

  • A proven ability to motivate students of all confidence levels creating an inclusive environment where every pupil feels safe to perform.

  • Deep subject knowledge of set texts and the ability to interpret them for a modern audience.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage the logistical demands of school rehearsals and public performances.
