The Science Department

The Science department is housed in a state-of-the-art Science Centre featuring university-standard laboratories and advanced analytical equipment. We believe that Science should be an active hands-on experience and our curriculum is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and real-world applications.

You will join a team of dedicated subject specialists and professional technicians who work closely together to deliver a world-class curriculum. The department enjoys a high profile within the school with a significant proportion of students choosing to study the Sciences at A-Level and moving on to STEM degrees at Russell Group universities. Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Science Teacher you will be responsible for delivering a challenging and engaging curriculum that inspires a lifelong interest in the natural world. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Instructional Excellence: Planning and delivering high-quality rigorous lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. You will be expected to teach all three sciences at GCSE level ensuring pupils develop a deep understanding of scientific principles and methodology.

  • A-Level Specialism: For candidates with appropriate expertise there is the opportunity to lead the delivery of your core subjectBiology Chemistry or Physicsat A-Level preparing pupils for the transition to higher education.

  • Practical Inquiry: Designing and overseeing sophisticated laboratory experiments. You will work with our technician team to ensure that practical work is safe effective and central to the learning experience.

  • Academic Tutoring: Serving as a personal tutor to a group of pupils monitoring their academic progress and providing high-level pastoral support within the schools framework.

  • Curriculum Refinement: Contributing to the ongoing development of schemes of work ensuring they remain academically stretching and reflect the latest scientific advancements.

  • Extracurricular Engagement: Contributing to the wider life of the school by leading or assisting with STEM-related societies robotics clubs or preparing pupils for National Science Olympiads.


Person Specification

The successful candidate will be a charismatic and highly capable subject specialist who thrives in an academically ambitious environment. You should possess:

  • Academic and Professional Credentials: A strong honors degree in a core Science discipline and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent. We also welcome applications from talented graduates or industry professionals looking to enter the independent sector.

  • Subject Authority: A deep mastery of your specific scientific field and the ability to communicate complex ideas with clarity enthusiasm and precision.

  • Pedagogical Skill: The ability to plan and deliver innovative lessons that challenge the most able pupils while providing the necessary support to ensure all learners reach their potential.
