Position Description:
Reporting to the Director of Pre-K in the Student Support Unit the Prek/K Itinerant Teacher delivers education services to identified preschoolers and kindergarteners ages 3-5 years with exceptionalities in Jefferson Parish Schools and community partner sites.
Reports To: Director of Early Childhood Education (Pre-K)
Scope of Responsibility:
- Coordinate and conduct both initial and review IEPs
- Work with school based administrators related service providers and teachers to support children with identified special needs in the Pre-K and Kindergarten classroom setting.
- Provide direct and consultative educational services to Pre-K and Kindergarten students with identified special needs in JP schools and community partner sites.
- Provide training to parents of identified preschoolers and kindergarteners with special needs.
- Assist in the transition process of students entering into the preschool program and exiting
- preschoolers into school-aged program.
- Work with special education preschool staff on identified program needs.
- Perform all job responsibilities as applicable listed under the special education teacher job
- description.
- Maintain certification in Pre-K-3rd 2nd Edition CLASS tool in order to conduct CLASS observations
- Perform other job related duties assigned by the Early Childhood Program Coordinator.
- Skills and Qualifications:
- Successful candidates will be detail-oriented independent self-starters who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to raising student achievement and who have a record of high performance in challenging situations and will also demonstrate:
- Certified in Preschool Special Education or Special Education
- Bachelors Degree
- Three (3) years as a preschool Special Education Teacher
- Strong communications skills in multiple settings
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions and recommendations.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Special Education.
Physical Involvement:
Sitting is required most of each work day. Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing walking reaching bending lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required. Ability to provide own transportation to schools work locations and meeting sites. Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations including locations not on the ground floor.
