Maintenance Mechanic II
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs a wide variety of tasks of ordinary difficulty relating to the electrical mechanical or construction trades;
Installs maintains repairs and rebuilds a wide variety of electrical fixtures equipment and systems;
Installs maintains repairs and rebuilds a wide variety of plumbing equipment and systems;
Installs maintains repairs and rebuilds sewer systems;
Performs a wide variety of steam fitting forging welding sheet metal fabricating or machine shop activities;
Mixes and lays cement and concrete for walks steps floors and foundations plasters walls partitions and ceilings cuts stone lays bricks and blocks and performs a wide variety of related masonry and stone cutting activities;
Performs a wide variety of mechanical repairs on autos trucks tractors and other mechanical equipment;
Makes assembles installs maintains repairs and rebuilds doors stairs walls floors desks chairs cabinets tables and other wood products equipment and structures;
Prepares paints and refinishes wood metal and other surfaces;
Installs maintains and/or repairs upholstery glass clocks meters and other miscellaneous items;
Installs maintains repairs and rebuilds a wide variety of heating and air conditioning equipment and systems;
Installs and repairs carpet floor and ceiling tile insulating materials and roofs;
Installs and maintains signs traffic islands and places road markings;
Installs repairs and maintains pumps presses furnaces and other waste water equipment;
Assists in the operation of sludge de-watering equipment and chemical feed system;
Completes daily reports.
Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds;

QUALIIFICATIONS
Possession of a valid New York State Class D Drivers License;
Good knowledge of the common practices tools terminology and safety precautions of one or more of the electrical mechanical or construction trades;
Ability to work from plans specifications and rough sketches;
Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
Demonstrated skill in at least one of the electrical mechanical or construction trades;
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position
Must be Monroe County Civil Service Eligible for the Maintenance Mechanic II title.
Non-competitive position ï½ Application is required. No exam is required.

AUTHORITY
Maintenance Mechanics are responsible to the Executive Director of Operations.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is skilled work involving responsibility for efficient and workmanlike performance of a variety of building installing maintaining and repairing tasks requiring a good knowledge of one or more of the electrical mechanical or construction trades such as carpentry plumbing painting electrical repair welding sheet metal work *auto mechanics masonry heating/air conditioning sewage facilities maintenance and related trades. General instructions are received regarding work of ordinary difficulty permitting some leeway for planning the technical details. Detailed instructions are usually received for new or difficult assignments. The Maintenance Mechanic II as distinguished from the Maintenance Mechanic I would not have responsibility for implementing and completing a large project and the coordination of many activities or trade skills; nor would the Maintenance Mechanic II be required to have as high a skill level as the Maintenance Mechanic I. The work is reviewed by immediate observation by checking completed work by periodic spot checks or by another step in the completion of the work. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of a Maintenance Mechanic I or foreman. The Maintenance Mechanic II may provide lead supervision of a small number of Maintenance Mechanics III Laborers or other lower-level employees. Does related work as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES SKILLS ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the common practices tools terminology and safety precautions of one or more of the electrical mechanical or construction trades; ability to work from plans specifications and rough sketches; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to work well with others; demonstrated skill in at least one of the electrical mechanical or construction trades; good hand and eye coordination; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus one (1) year of experience as a skilled workman in one or more of the electrical mechanical or construction trades.
NOTE: Additional experience may be substituted for the high school diploma on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Depending on the position duties candidates for employment with the Monroe County Government will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Possession of a valid New York State Motor Vehicle Operators license Class *D* or Class *B* may be required by some jurisdictions. Candidates may be required to pass a physical exam to determine ability to perform manual labor.
Candidates for positions at the Monroe County Department of Aviation must meet the pre-employment requirements of Part 107 of the Federal Aviation Administration Regulations prior to appointment.
*The performance of auto mechanic duties is not required at the City School District.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND BOCES:
Per Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000 and by Regulations of the Commissioner of Education to be employed in a position designated by a school district or BOCES as involving direct contact with students a clearance for employment from the State Education Department is required.
