RMIT is seeking a highly capable Senior Technical Officer Teaching & Research to support world-class teaching and research across the College of Design and Social Context.
This is not a passive lab role. Youll be hands-on visible and critical to ensuring our specialist facilities run safely efficiently and at a high standard. If you cant operate across multiple labs manage stakeholders and solve problems on the flythis role will expose you quickly.
Youll be embedded within the Facilities & Technical Services team delivering specialist technical expertise across teaching research and industry engagement activities.
You will:
Oversee day-to-day operations of specialist labs (chemistry dye conditioned labs and material testing environments including the flash-fire manikin and materials laboratory FLAMME)
Provide expert technical support to staff students and researchers
Manage equipment instrumentation and lab readiness for teaching and research delivery
Lead inductions training and compliance activities aligned with health and safety requirements
Maintain labs to best-practice standards (clean safe operational)
Act as a key support partner across academic and professional teams
About You
To be successful in this position youll haveas a minimum:
Core capabilities:
Strong technical expertise in laboratory environments (chemistry textiles material testing or similar)
Proven experience managing lab equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
High-level understanding of health safety and compliance frameworks
Ability to support both teaching and research outcomes simultaneously
Strong stakeholder engagement skills (academics students external partners)
Solid organisational skills and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment
Confident using digital systems for documentation and communication
