Position: Underwriter Credit Insurance Underwriting (Permanent and Contract Multiple Roles)

Compensation Details:
- Underwriter 15: Salaries range from $65 172 to $86898 annually based on qualifications and experiences plus a performance-based incentive.
- Underwriter 17: Salaries range from $84 698 to $112 931 annually based on qualifications and experiences plus a performance-based incentive.

Location:
- Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment with a current requirement of two in-office days per week increasing to three days per week in September 2026 (subject to change).
This role can be performed from EDCs headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto Mississauga Moncton or Halifax.

Team Overview:
EDCs Credit Insurance Underwriting group is looking fordynamic and motivated professionals toassistCanadian companies gogrowand succeed internationally. Working in close collaboration with both internal and external partners the successful candidate(s) willfacilitateinternational trade by helping our customers protect themselves against the risk of non-payment from foreign companies.
In the underwriting role you will be relied upon to engage with EDCs customers to understand theirneedsstructureinsurance coverage andassess counterparty creditworthiness to achieve theoptimalbalance between customer-centricity and EDCs business addition youwillactivelyparticipatein the attainment of the groups performance and growthobjectivesand be engaged in continuous improvementin order toremoveobstaclesenhancethe work environment and improve the customer experience.
We are currently recruiting for multiple permanent underwriter roles. This poster may also be used to fill future hiring needs over the next 12 months.
What you will be doing:
- Establishes relationships with internal andor externalcustomers;
- Understands customer needsdeterminesoptimalinsurance coverage structure terms andconditionsandparticipatesin delivery of the product to the client orprospect;
- Provideson-going customer service acting as subject matter expert for ourclients;
- Assesses the creditworthiness of foreign companies understanding the likelihood of a company honoring its obligations through in depth financial and credit analysis (liquidity analysis leverage & maturity schedules profitability cash-flow management third partybank support and other factors such as competitiveness market conditionselasticity of demand industry trends);
- Participates in developing loss mitigation strategies whenallocatedcredits become atrisk;
- Participates in continuous process improvement initiatives to streamline operations;
- Identifiesproblems and champions enhancements to existingprocesses;
- Contributes to the overall improvement of the programs results by striving for excellence and unrivaled execution.
What we are looking for:
- Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration Accounting FinanceCommerceor other relevant discipline (for all levels).
- 2 years (Underwriter level15) 2 - 5 years (Underwriter level 16) or greater than 5 (Underwriterlevel17)of experience in insurance underwriting or related financial services experience.
- Solidexperience reading and interpreting financial statements with strong financial analysis skills.
- Experience structuring and negotiating more complex structures with a can-do attitude and an outside the box mindset.
- Comfortable meeting with Exporters at Executive and Senior Leadership level in order to assess needs determine and outline appropriate structures
- Personal agility:
- ability to demonstrate personal resilience and openness to changes to EDCs business environment and structure
- adapting ones approach as the requirements of a situation change
- being comfortable in ambiguous situations and changing or easily accepting and managing changes in ones job requirements
- working in a matrix environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Strong client service skills (internal and external)
- Significant experienceleading the successful completion of increasingly complex commercial credit transactions across a variety of industry sectors andor international markets.
What will make you stand out:
- International and/or commercial banking experience.
- MBACFAor CPA designation.
- Working knowledge of insurance underwriting principles and practices.
- Advanced Excel skills. Coding skills is an asset.
- Proficiency in both English and French (fully bilingual).
