Position Summary

The Grounds Person is responsible for maintaining the overall appearance safety and cleanliness of the campus grounds at Long Island University. This role ensures outdoor areas are well-kept functional and aesthetically pleasing for students faculty staff and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain lawns trees shrubs flower beds and landscaped areas
• Perform mowing edging trimming and pruning
• Plant water fertilize and care for greenery and seasonal plants
• Remove leaves debris litter and snow from walkways and grounds
• Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment (mowers trimmers blowers etc.)
• Assist with irrigation system maintenance and repairs
• Apply pesticides and fertilizers in accordance with safety regulations
• Maintain outdoor facilities including sidewalks parking areas and athletic fields
• Support campus events by setting up and breaking down outdoor spaces
• Identify and report hazards damages or maintenance needs

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Prior experience in landscaping groundskeeping or facilities maintenance is a plus
• Basic knowledge of horticulture and plant care
• Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment safely
• Valid drivers license (may be required)
