Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) with wide latitude to exercise independent judgment the Deputy Commissioner for Public Information will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the Office of Public Information.

The Office of Public Information produces OTIs public inter-agency and internal communications; craft language for press releases public testimonies social media posts the website and general correspondence; and act as the main point of contact for the media elected and other government officials and the public.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
-Respond to a myriad of press inquiries including complex and difficult issues including safety and security custody management policy decisions etc.;
-Proactively pitch positive stories to press including local and national media regarding programmatic reforms special initiatives and coordinate OTI communications with the City Hall Press Office and other city agencies to ensure continuity of messaging;
-Prepare public testimony speeches and talking points for the Commissioner while overseeing agency internal and external websites and publications;
-Manage a targeted social media policy designed to inform discrete internal and external stakeholder groups including staff regulatory bodies elected officials advocates;
-Prepare appropriate written reports and memoranda summarizing findings and analysis from executed initiatives surveys inspections audits and recommendations for performance improvement for submission to the Commissioner;
-Manage special projects and initiatives as assigned.

HOURS/SHIFT
Day - Due to the management duties of this position in a 24/7 operation candidate may be required to be on call work overtime and/or various shifts such as weekends and/or nights/evenings.

Qualifications :

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of progressively in computer applications programming systems programming computer systems development data telecommunications database administration planning of data/information processing user services or area networks at least 18 months of this experience must have been in an executive managerial administrative capacity in the areas of computer application performing these duties;
or
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 above. However all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a States department of education or recognized accrediting organization and must possess at least three years of experience as described in 1 above including the 18 months of executive managerial administrative or
supervisory experience as described in 1 above.
